It really is the perfect "family" holiday thriller (the edgy side of Christmas) and carries a message that is so perfectly fine-tuned to our problems of today it might actually make you feel a little guilty.

Sounds like they've resurrected David Manning.

I came to the same conclusion from the trailers on TV and at the movies.

Left-wing trash.

Boycott this crap and all Hollywood movies.

Actually the “law” is that all works eventually DO become public domain, to become part of the cultural legacy of this nation. Restaging of these works IS what the founding fathers intended.

100 year copyrights were not.

Funny thing was Gort seemed pretty violence prone too.

They are remaking this film as well (seriously):

Colonel Tom Edwards: Why is it so important that you want to contact the governments of our earth?

Eros: Because of death. Because all you of Earth are idiots.

Jeff Trent: Now you just hold on, Buster.

Eros: No, you hold on. First was your firecracker, a harmless explosive. Then your hand grenade: you began to kill your own people, a few at a time. Then the bomb. Then a larger bomb: many people are killed at one time. Then your scientists stumbled upon the atom bomb, split the atom. Then the hydrogen bomb, where you actually explode the air itself. Now you can arrange the total destruction of the entire universe served by our sun: The only explosion left is the Solaranite.

Colonel Tom Edwards: Why, there's no such thing.... You speak of Solaranite. But just what is it?

Eros: Take a can of your gasoline. Say this can of gasoline is the sun. Now, you spread a thin line of it to a ball, representing the earth. Now, the gasoline represents the sunlight, the sun particles. Here we saturate the ball with the gasoline, the sunlight. Then we put a flame to the ball. The flame will speedily travel around the earth, back along the line of gasoline to the can, or the sun itself. It will explode this source and spread to every place that gasoline, our sunlight, touches. Explode the sunlight here, gentlemen, you explode the universe. Explode the sunlight here and a chain reaction will occur direct to the sun itself and to all the planets that sunlight touches, to every planet in the universe. This is why you must be stopped. This is why any means must be used to stop you. In a friendly manner or as (it seems) you want it.

Lieutenant John Harper: He's mad.

Tanna: Mad? Is it mad that you destroy other people to save yourselves? You have done this. Is it mad that one country must destroy another to save themselves? You have also done this. How then is it "mad" that one planet must destroy another who threatens the very existence-...

Colonel Tom Edwards: Why, a particle of sunlight can't even be seen or measured.

Eros: Can you see or measure an atom? Yet you can *explode* one. A ray of sunlight is made up of *many* atoms! Jeff Trent: So what if we *do* develop this Solanite bomb? We'd be even a stronger nation than now.

Eros: [with disgust] Stronger. You see? You see? Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid!

Jeff Trent: That's all I'm taking from you! [pistol-whips Eros upside the head]

*DOH* — it was Gort not Korg.

Thanks for not correcting me. Good analysis.

Ed Wood films are not to be touched.

It isn’t the movie plot — it is that EW style.

I hope they lose their shirts, as appears to be the case with TDTESS.

Liberal hollyweird and the rest of the liberal media entertainment complex, are incapable of anything but propaganda.

They just don’t know anything else.

What they don’t get, is that’s why they’re about to go broke. Because more and more of their customers just don’t like anything they do anymore.

Liberals have surrendered half the market, by their incapability to do anything but socialist crap.

But where is the conservative competition??

There’s NOTHING. Plain absent. There are *no* movies, there are few media and zero news, presented from the view of a small-government conservative pov.

Nothing. The problem isn’t liberal media.

The problem is, nobody is offering any competition! Liberals have an oligopoly, and conservatives seem not to care.

Fox, FNC, Rush are fine for what they do, but they’re not journalists. (yes Fox I mean that — y’all jumped the shark for Obama a couple months ago)

The only other options are religious broadcasters, and just simply giving up and getting off the entertainment grid altogether. No offense to religious broadcasters intended. But where are the non-leftwing journalists? Where is a non-leftwing real news outlet? Why aren’t liberals fighting to stave off CONSERVATIVE COMPETITION?

It’s a shame.

There’s a vast, deep untapped market just waiting to make some libertarian or conservative media mogul the richest person in the universe.

But nobody is stepping up to the plate!

Mel Gibson hit a base hit, but was about it. And where’s he gone to? Arnold’s out of entertainment. Tom Selleck isn’t really doing anything. Chuck Norris is blogging.

Michelle Malkin has the right idea, but Hot Air (rather like FR) even though they’re excellent web portals, don’t interface with that huge mainstream out there.

Rush, is evidently stuck on radio forever. (though he would be IMHO the logical enterpreneur to outright purchase and take over an entire network)

Where are the conservatives, who want to make vast sums of easy money? It’s just waiting, for someone to step up to the plate!

There’s a huge unsupported market out here.

Somebody’s gonna get very, very rich, from all the customers liberals have chased away.

Wish they’d hurry up...

My issue of law wasn’t really a issue of law or copyrights. It was more of a joke that there should be laws against people remaking perfectly good movies. Also there is plenty of old movies that didn’t do good when they were released or were not “classics”. Hollywood should be remaking those instead of remaking good movies and reusing the titles of old movies in hopes of getting more people in the theater.

Besides, if they just *had* to do an 'enviro-conscious' sci-fi flick, why not just remake Silent Running?

Or re-release it for a new generation.

I actually liked "Silent Running". I have it in my VHS collection. Now that you have reminded me of it, I should look for it on DVD.

I enjoyed Silent Running too - Dern is such a wonderful nutcase in everything he does.

BTW, it is out on DVD now - 10 bucks at Amazon.
