That wasn’t very nice.
Many young people start out as liberals, and then gey get mugged by reality, like the rest of us.
We weren’t all born conservatives, you know.
Recent broadcasts from some of the best Christian radio programming available:

What’s an MP3 player?
Oh yeah, and when I was 20, I listened to Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, etc...
Now, I couldn’t even imagine other than the occassional nostalgic tune. With age comes stress. With stress comes the weakening of ability to listen to “cool” crap.
He said it is overly embellished with descriptive narration that could have been left out.
Kind of like the sentence I just wrote. ;-)
Somehow he isn’t finding that to be as offencive in the audio version, although he still comments on it.
I’d recommend trying to listen, especially if you have any kind of long commute. It’s such an important book.
:-)
Gee, I thought the goal was to raise our kids to be conservative - I did it in a very liberal area but if music is more important to you, then go put some ear plugs in and escape from reality for awhile.
In my IPOD is Enya (nice choice), every Journey and Queen song ever made, Page & Plant, Sam Cooke...
Fire- Arthur Brown
Pump it- Blacked Eyed Peas
Electric Barberella- Duran Duran
Atom Bomb - Fluke
Canned Heat - Jamiroquai
Stayin Alive- N Trance
Just Antoher Day - Oingo Boingo
Voodoo People - Chemical Brothers
True Nature - Jane’s Addiction
You Know My Name - Chris Cornell
The One - Tracy Bonham
and just for fun....
It’s a sunshine day - The Brady Bunch Kids
A Charlie Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi
Wow, so nice that raising conservatives worked out for you and all.
For some, our children have to wander the land of abyss before waking up.
My father is very liberal, but I’m not. Go figure.
It plays MP3's.
You might also have told him that an MP3 is the thing you put into the MP3 player.
No sense in just explaining half of the answer.
;-)
It is seriously dorky :p, so laid back it’s not even standing up ... :)
I'd be more worried about the "liberal-leaning" part, unless you think it's a teenage rebellion phase she's going through.
My iPod shuffle currently has a broad mix of things including Christian gothic and heavy metal music, Japanese pop music, 70s music (including disco), 80s pop, symphonic heavy metal, The Carpenters, modern stuff, and even some rap. Basically, I like individual examples of all sorts of music.
It has worked well for me - thanks. Many people have liberal parents, but since we aren’t responsible for raising our parents we don’t have to worry about that do we?
My daugthers are not liberals.
I haven’t picked up any recent Megadeth. I think the last I bought was SF,SG,SW way back when. I’m listening to a lot of death metal these days though (my kids don’t know what to make of it, but they’re still young, so there’s hope they won’t fall into the hip-hop crowd and force me to disown them.)
I’ve been listening to a lot of old stuff I grew up with such as Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Ramones, Motorhead (of course!), Venom, Slayer, Napalm Death, and even the new Metallica, but the older I get, the faster I seem to get, so I’m now listening to a lot of Scandinavian Death- and Thrash Metal, like God Dethroned, Exmortem, Deicide, Entombed, Obituary, Suffocation, and the like.
I also enjoy listening to Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, Rush, Oysterhead, Hank Williams, Charlie Daniels, Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, James Brown, Yardbirds, Cream, Led Zepplin, Neil Young, Reverend Horton Heat, and classical music too.
All that other junk that is on radio nowadays - R&B, Hip-hop, and whatever else they call it, can kiss my ass.
I have high hopes that my kids will start enjoying all this with me soon, and look forward to taking them to their first concert and watching them mosh it up with me.
Ouch. Who urinated in your corn flakes today?
Of course I want my kids to be conservatives, and I try to teach them the value of such understanding. I've been teaching them all their lives, but they have free will, and that includes the free will to make mistakes, and learn from them.
I have a sister who is a Liberal. She's older than me, and that IS very sad.
A kid/teenager who leans left is not sad, as you said... they are still learning.
Your comment '.... how sad.', was obviously meant as a shot, and I think it was rude.
Just throw out the old bowl of cereal, and start again. :-)
