The aim of the expedition was to promote alternative energy and bioethanol as a source of power, as well as raising funds for the children’s charity Global Angels.

Oh my.

Looks like the helicopter MEDI VAC consumed any energy he might have been saving.

I liked the series he did on going through part of the French Foreign Legion basic training.

If he wanted to maintain his ‘green’ integrity, he’d have insisted on returning on a sailboat.

I broke my left humerus near my elbow a couple of months ago. I can imagine the pain and terror he must have felt since he was in such a hostile environment and he had a compound fracture. God bless him on a speedy recovery.

—when he did the South Dakota portion of his “wild” adventures, it appeared that he was maybe a quarter to half-mile off the highway near Custer-—

"The airlift operation itself was fraught with danger"

Nothing like putting others in danger to prove a point.... ;)

I do hope he has a speedy recovery...

I’m glad people like him exist. I’m too chicken to climb mountains. I watched a dvd last night about a fellow named Eric Alexander, a mountaineer, a Christian, who takes disabled people with him mountain climbing, but mostly blind people. They showed a clip of a blind man crossing a crevasse on three, maybe four, Ace Hardware-type aluminum ladders tied together end to end. This was on the way up Everest. It was the most fascinating video I’ve seen in years.

This guy is a poser. Forced to put a disclaimer in the beginning of each of his show that he, and I’m paraphrasing, stages some of his show.

The real deal is Survivorman, Les Stroud. No support crew, no camera crew.Films everything himself.A much better show IMO.

Bear Grylls is the man. And yes he is also an entertainer. He does TV. It’s a show. Yep. Les Stroud is great in his way also. No crew. No hype. He also goes most of the trip hungry because he doesn’t focus enough on eating in the wild. Bear will eat anything.

He has an interesting life and is a very inspirational man. Sure he sets up most of his adventures on TV, but he still does more in life than most people and he enjoys every bit. Both my son and I watch Man vs. Wild and Survivor Man. Bear has commented on his spiritual life on the shows also.

I don’t remember his name.. but I came across a show about a guy who filmed his journey crossing the Arctic.. He was alone except for his sled dog team.. They had to turn back.. I’m wondering if it might have been Survivorman..

32 feet per second per second. It’s not just a good idea. It’s the law.

Get well soon, Bear.

One word--

OW!!!

We love watching these so-called 'survival' shows as a family--very clean cut but sometimes really really gross- (one time Bear bit the head off this really big snake and ate it, then cooked the rest of the snake--ewwww!) Hope he recovers quickly with no complications! BTW, I believe he's Catholic because many times before he does something dangerous (like jumping out of a helicopter into the ocean) he'll say a quick prayer and cross himself. IIRC, he has a wife and son too.

His show is a lot of fun to watch. Some of it isn’t realistic, but it’s still entertaining. He does some crazy stuff and it was bound to catch up to him.

Wish him a speedy recovery.
