I watched a “documentary” edited from footage of the McCarthy hearings. The subject seemed to focus on an investigation of McCarthy, Cohen, and a guy in the military who “may” have received preferential treatment.
The whole thing was a circus designed to go after McCarthy, rather than the witchhunt that McCarthy was supposedly conducting. It was a communist produced film, sans commentary, that was made in the mid-1960s.
Deny it as they might, there WERE Communists in the United States (when pressed on the matter, they will say there was nothing wrong with being a Communist), and there were Communists working (knowingly or unknowingly) on behalf of the Soviet Union.
Democrats like Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy did far more to abuse their chairs while giving confirmation hearings to men like Clarence Thomas (Joe Biden outright lied about Thomas’ position on an activist role for the Supreme Court).
You two are hitting all the hot buttons on the loyalty to this country by Joe McCarthy. Thank you for your input. I’m saving your comments for future use.
One addition, Robert Taylor, the famous movie star of the ‘40s, was in the service during WWII. He later gave speeches about being FORCED by his superiors in the service to do a movie which he considered communist.
