We were speculating about this in the meeting. Ron Zarella loved long Lincoln limousines..the bigger the better...and would switch to a GM product a couple blocks away from whatever event he was attending.

Same ole GM.

Using smoke and mirrors to fool people who fool people with smoke and mirrors in order to take their money. Just terrible.
Next you’re going to tell me that Barney Frank was rear-ending the head of Fannie Mae.

I can see the movie now, 3 rich & elitist CEO’s roadtripping it to washington, leaving detroit and experiencing America for the first real time in their lives, discovering adventure along the way via small towns filled with wacky characters contributing to their misadventure. The movie poster is them in front of a sunset, sitting on the hood of the car they’re sharing, all with undone red ties and blazers strewn behind them.

“They drove to save their companies, but in the process, they also saved themselves.”

Does anyone see the irony of shipping a couple of cars across country and then driving a third to show that GM is being environmentally friendly and cutting back on expensive business travel?

I just wondered. A semi truck across country and a hybrid Vs a business booked business class flight and a taxi?

let’s be honest about this miracle vehicle. It is the new “K Car” for Chevy. It’s gonna be a total disaster and consumers will have nothing to do with it.

It is a concept car. At this point, they aren’t even sure if they can technologically pull it off despite its 2010 supposed market release. It will also be a $40+K priced car which will only be able to travel 140 miles without being charged. So, it’s a commuter car for that much money and it will have two seats.

Who is asking for this car to be built??? Congress. Lefties (who can’t afford the car anyways). UAW (who wants us to bail out their boondoggle contracts in exchange for an electric car).

END THE INSANITY!!! Stop the electric car before it kills Detroit (what’s left of it).

What did they arrive in before? They flew private luxury jets to DC first go round but since there’s no landing strip in front of the Capitol building (Washington Monument is in the way), some sort of vehicle delivered them to the Capitol steps.

OK, how much did it cost to ship the Chevy Volt mule out to DC? I bet more than the $20K private jet trip cost!

The Volt supposedly has a range of 40 miles, but that’s prolly if you don’t use the radio and definitely don’t use the heater or A/C. It would be funny if his Volt ran out of juice a coupla blocks from the dodo brain prima donnas waiting for him on Capitol Hill.

"The fact that Wagoner didn't drive one from Detroit, but apparently had it shipped to Washington in order to drive the last few miles, may be an indication that the Volt program has a long was to go to keep its promises."

The article is pretty dumb. The Volt is not scheduled for production until late 2010, of course it's not ready to be driven from Detroit to Washington today. It's well understood that the battery technology is still being developed.

"[The Volt] is GM's best shot at turning things around."

Stop the bailout! stop the bailout! The best shot is the Volt??? Holy carp. A car that can only handle a 20 mile commute (heaven forbid there's any traffic congestion) and your boss who cuts HIS budget by NOT letting you plug in your car at work to recharge on HIS dime? Can you imagine the traffic nightmares in LA if even 0.5% suffer a power fail (500 out of every 100k cars, pro'ly failure to charge and / or battery fail)? Actually, your safety distance would be 15 miles out, then 15 miles back home since you couldn't count on getting a charge while at work plus you would have to leave a safety margin.

Look, if Congress wants to flush money down the toilet I'd be glad to take my share and put it to better use than GM seems prepared to do.

I have been speaking to my gnomes again....

Think critically folks....

These proto's many which are hand built can run up to 500k per copy. I have sat in proto's but those cleared to drive them can't take me for a ride. Reasons? They are not production vehicles, can you say the Product Liability Attorneys have stuck their nose under this tent as well? Look one of my gnomes told me it may have come down from legal that they couldn't do it. What would have been the indemnity if one of these gents (God Forbid) got killed in one of these? Are you aware many life insurance policies (including employee insurance) are null and void if you fly and get killed in a homebuilt aircraft? With that said, are these vehicles almost in the same category? What about their "Key Man Insurance"? was it violated if the made the journey the entire way in a prototype? What is it costing them to re-write the "Key-Man Insurance" now that they are going to get rid of the Corp Jets?

While it is easy to take pot-shots at GM and the Volt this is the reality of even taking cars like this, unfortunately this is the complicated world we live in.

As far as the Volt, detract if you must, IMHO it is a game changer, I will say no more.....
