Charity Vogels article on Gary Ecelbargers book on Lincolns 16-month period before his 1860 election was interesting. He wrote about Lincolns meteoric rise and contends Barack Obamas rise was far less. I respectfully disagree.
Lincoln lost two senatorial races, says Ecelbarger, but does not point out they were not popular vote elections. Nor does he advise that the 17th Amendment was still years away. Despite those losses, maintains Ecelbarger, because of Lincolns great middle ground message he secured the Republican nomination.
Now, look at Obama. When he lost Super Tuesday to a prominent senator, it seemed like he couldnt possibly secure the Democratic Party nomination. But national election rules regrading proportionate division of delegates and, more importantly, rules and strategy regarding caucus delegates, were unknown or ignored by his competitors. Who could believe that the unknown first-term senator, also from Illinois, knew and practiced election law rules so superbly? Obamas campaign brilliance was astounding; his securing the nomination was far superior to Lincolns.
One hundred fifty years from now, historians may rate Obama the second best president ever. Lincoln is likely to always be number one. Not even Lincoln, however, has had a more meteoric rise than the 44th president-elect. Indeed, it is unprecedented.

“This is not the Barack Obama I voted for....”
ran roughshod over the Constitution = obamas election to office.
“It’s a statement of religious faith”.
That’s one way to look at it. For some reason, I thought of Chrissy Matthews and thought that “premature ejaculation” was a better descriptor.
Lincoln as number one?
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha . . . . .
Must be a slow news day in Buffalo.
I guess they needed some filler articles.
Maybe I’m missing something. When did we start writing history BEFORE THE FREAKIN EVENT!!!???
just what I was going to say. we are truly sunk.
I must admit that I am puzzled why the writer didn't proclaim FDR to be our greatest President, but that was probably just a feint in an attempt to avoid involuntary commitment to a psychiatric institution.
Don’t forget the circuit rider poll workers between battlefields.
Cart? Horse? Cart? Horse? I have such a hard time keeping the order straight!
Such ‘historians’ are just fifth column leftist hacks masquerading as honorable people.
Or, “Historians may rate obama second worst president ever’
Or thirty third. Or eight. Or 44th.
