Liberals upset to discover that turkeys don't grow in their freezer cases
The American Thinker ^ | November 23, 2008 | Ethel C. Fenig

Many liberals are planning to celebrate Thanksgiving once again, thankful they finally took back their country when their candidate won the presidential election.

To demonstrate their gratitude they were even willing to eat turkey, although quite a few are vegetarian. But wouldn't you know, former Republican vice presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin (Alaska) had to ruin the feast with reality. As she conducted the mock ritual of "pardoning" a turkey for Thanksgiving in front of the television cameras, real working class folks in the background did their job of getting fresh turkeys to the American public.

The delicate folks at Huffington Post who apparently thought that turkeys grew in the freezer case at their local supermarket, were upset to learn how turkeys really arrived at their table.

"After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seemingly oblivious to the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes. Watch the video below to see for yourself. Be warned, it's kind of gruesome."bv

Uh yeah, that's how it's done. Those are the real working class folks you claim to worry about but you don't understand them. Either accept it and enjoy your meal or dine on vegetarian alternatives. But either way, welcome back and Happy Thanksgiving.

I thought this whole thing was pretty silly. We eat lots of animals in our house and we kill them all and cook them before eating them. Why do some folks think this is unusual?

They grow in freezers? I thought they grew on trees in shrink-wrap plastic cases.

That’s not the point. Everybody knows that people go to the bathroom; should a politician record a TV interview in front on an open Porta-Potty?

there was no blood or guts or anything gruesome about the video....it looked kinda funny if you didn’t know what was happening. Besides, video games and movies and what’s on television is much much much more graphic in every sense of the word 24/7. Killing turkey should be a no-problemo for most people these days.

Next she should do an interview in a meat-packing plant. Maybe do another inteview while moose-hunting. There is no point in down-playing what you are; your enemies hate you just the same. May as well stand up and stand up proud.

That pardoning thing is stupid anyway. And here she spent so much time saying she isn't old business as usual.

Showing them being killed also was stupid. People would obviously complain.

I eat meat but frankly I don't want to watch cattle and hogs and stuff being slaughtered on tv. It doesn't mean I'm in some sort of severe denial. A lot of necessary things go on I can do without having in my face.

We shouldn't worry too much about these snobs--when it comes to survival of the fittest, one of the main pinnacles of their much-vaunted theory of evolution, these overfed, overindulged idiots will find themselves in a quandry--as in not fit to survive. Anyone who has the mindset of "the world exists to serve Me" are the first ones who will find themselves in major big trouble.

Where do they think the filet mignon they eat in those fancy restaurants comes from? Duh...

Do you really feel that, in order to prove she is a government reformer, she must back away from all traditions? Governors and Presidents have done the turkey pardons for years.

Touche. Still, this is a social condition that we Americans have come to. Reality seems grotesque and obscene in spite of itself. Utopia is easier when wrapped in political correctness (not sure that's a word).

A normal person should shake their head with a grin and think, that could have been done better. Drop it, maybe have some fun with it, then move on.

We eat unfertilized and undeveloped chicken babies for breakfast. Most call them eggs. We eat pigs, cows,..... Our media uses images, words and dialog to shape social opinion every day. As humans, at least, and Americans at most, we should be a little more immune to reality in everything from war to how food ends up in your freezer.

Please don't confuse my thoughts with faked reality on TV. Jerry Springer is not everyday reality but American's flock to this very non-PC entertainment. I believe many do not understand that these shows represent exceptions, not norms.

We are devolving socially at a rapid pace. Somewhere in the last 50 years, we collectively decided that it was wrong for people to be offended, regardless of what their offensive level of tolerance is. Now we seem to attack anyone who is accused of being offensive and censor ourselves in pursuit of appeasing everyone.

There is no fur allowed in the T-Giving Macy's parade this year. Why? Some one gets offended at the thought of an animal being processed for meat and skin. This is what I am talking about. Folks who get offended should be shamed in the media and by fellow citizens at this level.

No, the point is that Palin had no idea what was happening but both the reporter and cameraman did. It was another media created controversy.

BTW

My 2 year old loves venison. My 7 year old put a lot of pressure on me this hunting season to kill a deer for us to eat. She fully understands the process. She gags when she gets jelly on her fingers but has no problems with daddy processing a deer in the garage for consumption later.

I believe social awareness, understanding and reality begins in the home and must be honed against other influences. I also believe that we Americans could stand to be a lot more thick skinned in general.

I have never met a popularity contest winner that I would trust as a best friend.

She had no idea? Look at the film again. The turkey second turkey struggles and causes a commotion and she turns toward the commotion. She minimally had to see perpherially what was going on.

This is much ado about nothing from both sides of the Palin aisle.

But we do have a new celebrity. Brian the Butcher.
