He took Woolrich’s cool little short novella and transformed it - with Hitch of course - into the “pure cinema” of the voyeurism completely diegetic sound track of Rear Window.

Not nearly as much demand for real screenwriters these days in Hollywood I would guess. All those words just get in the way of special effects. And of course there would be the issue of finding someone who can act, even if a decent screenplay were to fall out of the sky onto a studio executive’s head while he was on the way to ‘do lunch’.

REAR WINDOW is one of the all-time classics, helped greatly by an absolutely stunning Grace Kelly of course.

God bless the man and his family. As for Hitchcock, best driector never to win an academy award. Although it’s an academy award so I guess it doesn’t matter much anyway.
