Probably a bot fly.

I've always been told that bot fly larvae only bore into muscle tissue. This thing was found inside the woman's head. Besides, to be attacked by bot fly larvae you have to be bitten by a mosquito and then not bathe for about five days.

It's probably taenia solium, the common port tape worm. This means that the medium rare carnitas and unwashed hands after handling raw pork hypotheses are in play. Tabby is exonerated. It turns out toxiplasma gondii, which cats give to people is a paramecium, not a worm as I had thought.
