Band of Brothers. I cannot for the life of me see how a girlie man like Obama is going to lead a group of people who’s dedication and willingness to sacrafice is on a level that he could not possibly comprehend.
GI Jane but, only cause of Demi.
See Tora! Tora! Tora! and get a more accurate depiction.
The Patriot
Cold Mountain (I know, more romantic, but it’s technically a war movie)
We Were Soldiers
Patton
Saving Private Ryan
The Big Red One
For fun with a dose of reality - MR. Roberts (Cagney & Hank Fonda)
Sahara
The Battle of Britain
Go for Broke
I love that movie. I met an oldtime SSF/SF guy who had a BBQ restaurant in Albuquerque, NM (JR's, his son still runs it) that is covered with 1st Special Services mementos.
It's right outside Kirtland AFB, and is jammed w/military and DOE folks every day.
Decades ago, when I was on a reserve SF team in Albq., he used to feed me for free. Wouldn't take my money.
I agree..I never watched Pearl Harbor..I really hate Hollywood's interpretation of events..like there are only two pilots in the entire military so they fly both fighters and bombers with months of each other...
About the man and his struggles with his faith in God and his uncanny ability to put a bullet right between a man's eyes. Sergent Alvin York performed the single greatest act of military heroism in history; yet didn't ever want to be celebrated for his acts, which, as they involved killing people, he found personally abhorrent.
Cannot recommend the movie enough. The commentary by a Hollywood Historian was amazing, she knew EVERYTHING. I loved the movie after watching it, then loved it even more after watching it with the commentary.
Apparently the movie was a big factor in gleaning support for our entry into WWII, back when Hollywood worked FOR America rather than against it.
It is very real and the old guys recounting the war gets to me.
THEY WERE EXPENDABLE - Navy Vet of course!
12 O'Clock High.
God, I loved that theme song.

I had a neighbor who was in the 8th Air Force. He was shot down over Germany and spent the rest of the war in a stalag.
Weird thing..my dad who went through grade school and high school with him was part of the unit that liberated him.
Any war movie with the Duke will work for me.

I’ve seen it a million times and you know what. Yamamoto was not on the Akagi. The best book I’ve read on it is called Air-Raid Pearl Harbor. It’s a paper back my daughter read in Jr. High School. It’s how I learned about “Purple” and “Magic”. The Chaplain also didn’t exactly say “Praise, the Lord and pass the ammunition”.
Have a relative on the Arizona.
I’m a big SERGEANT YORK fan too.
TWELVE O’CLOCK HIGH is another good one. GUADALCANAL DIARY.
Watched Saving Private Ryan with my kids Monday night, they loved it, and were scared as hell by it, and still want to join the military. Tough chicks!
Same here on Sunday but with my 14 yr old son. I let him stay up until 11:15 but it was well worth it.He did not want to ge to bed until the end... The opening scene of them getting off the boat on the beach was as intense a scene in any movie as I’ve ever watched...
