Good news - the US has a more diverse abundance of natural resources than any other country. We may very well be de-civilized in that our banking industry has to be rebuilt from the ground up, but our bounty of natural resources aren’t going anywhere. Second, this is a global crisis, not an American one. When we get punched, our enemies get punched twice. Third, we’re going to be fine. You guys in the cities (and the Democrats) will have it harder than rural areas (and Republicans), but you’re not going to starve. Buy real assets and get out of stocks/bonds and intangibles for a while, be smart, be kind, work hard and we’ll be fine.

It's not the natural resources that count....it's the liberty to use them. If it was merely a matter of natural resources, sub-saharan africa, which is replete with oil, gold, diamonds and all sorts of rare minerals, lumber and exotic tourist sites would be among the wealthiest regions on earth.
