Polish court reprimands topless sunbathers
Nov 7 02:34 PM US/Eastern
A Polish court Friday reprimanded two Polish women, including a model who has appeared in men's magazines, for indecent exposure after they sunbathed topless, a rarity in the deeply Catholic country.
"Showing nudity goes beyond social customs and norms in Poland," read part of the verdict issued by a court in Szczecin, northwest Poland. "Personal freedom ends where the freedom of another person begins."
"I completely respect the court's verdict, but at the same time I disagree with it and I will certainly appeal it," Dorota Krzysztofek, 28, told Poland's TVN24 news channel. She also said she would be contacting Poland's ombudsman, a civil rights watchdog.
The court also ruled the women would have to pay court fees of 130 zlotys (36 euro, 46 dollars). The verdict is subject to appeal.
"Perhaps men will also have to cover up their torsos on the beach?" Krzysztofek said. "I see nothing indecent about the chests of men or women," she added.
In May, policemen fined Krzystofek and her 26-year-old friend for sunbathing topless on a public beach in Szczecin.
The women went to court after they failed to pay a fine of 150 zlotys (40 euros, 55 dollars).
The case of the two women -- one of whom is a model and has appeared topless in Polish men's magazines -- sparked such massive media interest that a first hearing in September had to be postponed when too many reporters turned up to fit into the court gallery.
The women pleaded not guilty to indecent exposure, arguing there was no explicit ban on going topless at the beach.
They also said fellow sunbathers had not been offended, insisting that many had jumped to their defence.
It’s par for the course in Europe in many areas. There is this beach called Jesolo Beach near Venice Italy where us young buck American soldiers would spend our weekends in the summer when we could.
It was full of women that looked just like the bonnie lass in these photos who come down from Scandinavia, Poland etc. to the Mediterranean for vacation.
They all spoke some level of English and were friendly. I still have some old slide photos somewhere of them showering out in the open public beach showers.

Yeah, in fact give them a court order to CONTINUE!
“If loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right.”
To borrow a phrase from Homer Simpson.
MMMMMMM....Poland.
The only problem is that with the traditional Polish diet these two will blow up like life rafts in a couple of years.
Do not tell me this wasn't a Marketing Ploy, Brilliant, Absolutely Brilliant I say!
Gawd I love Polish women.
Do you see what all those years of communism did to the people of Poland? It stole all of their vowels! Those poor people couldn't even afford a decent number of vowels in their names under communism!

Where I work we used to have the most beautiful little polish lady who was our FedEx delivery person. She always had a big smile and was friendly and chatty. I could have the worst day at work, and a 2 minute conversation with her would set everything straight. The best part of my day was when be quitting time, but it wasn't because of leaving work, but because she was picking up, and it would give me a chance to chat with her for a few minutes. She was gorgeous.
Unfortunately her route changed, and I haven't seen her in more than a month.

How do you spell that name?
Communism didn’t contribute to this at all.
For instance - name of one of Polish kings was Stanislaw Leszczynski (18th century).
The true translation is probably "many rose to their defense."
...only if it’s a hung jury...
But seriously - it would be something like: “kzhyh-shtoph-ekh” (at least I suppose so).
With “zh” - like in “Brezhnev”
I know, translated - ‘a little Christopher’!
Exactly :-)))
My first girlfriend was of Polish descent. She looked alot like Olga Kurylenko in some of her better pictures. I just hated it too
