Let's look at Palin's White House chances by examining the results of those who sought the Vice Presidency and lost.
This does not included those who were Vice President and lost at re-election
1904: Sen Henry Gassaway Davis - WV, Dem, Never heard from again
1908: Sen John Worth Kern - IN, Dem - Died 9 years latter
1912: Gov Hiram Warren Johnson - CA, Progessive - Elected to the US Senate until 1945
1916: Sen Charles Warren Fairbanks - IN, Republican - Died in 1918.
1920: Gov Franklin D Roosevelt - NY, Democrat - Elected President 1932
1924: Gov Charles Wayland Bryan - NE, Democrat - Return to Lincoln

1940: Sen Charles Linza McNary - OR, Republican - Returned to Senate
1944: Gov John William Bricker - OH, Republican - Became a US Senator.
1948: Gov Earl Warren - CA, Republican - Return to Sacramento, the rest is history (didn't do enough to redistribute income).
Gov Fielding Wright - MS, Dixicrat - Returned to Jackson.
1952: Sen John Sparkman - AL, Democrat - Returned to the US Senate
1956: Sen Estes Kefauver - TN, Democrat - Returned to the US Senate
1960: Amb Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.- MA, Republican - Returned to Diplomatic corp.
1964: William Miller - NY, Republican - Disappeared. Claim to fame, made an American Express commercial and spawned a she-bitch by the name of Stephanie Miller.
1968: Sen Ed Muskie - ME, Democratic - Ran for President in 1972, degraded himself further by becoming Carter's Sec of State in 1980.
Curtis Lemay - CA, American Independent Party - Disappeared.
1972: Sargent Shriver - Md, Democrat - Ran for President in 1976.
1976: Sen Robert Dole - KS, Republican - Returned to Senate, Ran for President in 1980, 1988, and got the GOP nomination in 1996 only to make McCain's run in 2008 look good.
1984: Rep Geraldine Ferraro - NY, Democrat - Left the House,
1988: Sen Lloyd Benten - TX, Democrat - Returned to Senate, later degraded himself in the Clinton Administration.
1992: Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale - MD, Reform Party - "Who am I? Why am I here?" Made the word Gridlock famous.

2000: Sen Joe Liberman - CN, Democrat - Returned to Senate.
2004: John Edwards - NC, Democrat - Returned to North Carolina, ran for President in 2007. Cheated on his wife.
For cryin out loud. Sarah was the Vice-Presidential nominee for what? A couple of months? Why should that determine her political future forever?
Elections officials, party leaders and voters are wondering what happened this Tuesday in the Last Frontier, where turnout was surprisingly low and two lawmakers who have been the focus of FBI corruption investigations appear to have been reelected despite polling suggesting they would be ousted.http://voices.washingtonpost.com/washingtonpostinvestigations/2008/11/alaska_turnout_results_raise_q.html
I think Sarah needs to wait until at least 2016. I will wait for her, always. :)
Reply #78 is in response to reply #53 which clearly refers to "........30 years in the Senate"
Hello?
Anybody home?
None. Let’s get real and move on. No more also rans. She’s not Reagan either.
agreed, I do not want to hear any of these names again.

Just had a tip from a max McCain donor who called their office to find out if McCain would defend Palin. He gave his name and explained he had donated the max, establishing he deserved some amount of customer service.
"That person," this idiot insisted, "has already been fired."
"You mean Randy Sheunemann? He wasn't the one smearing her, he was the one defending her."
"You don't understand," the guy "arrogantly" responds (characterization from source), "He's been fired. It's been handled."
"You don't seem to understand. Sheunemann is not the person smearing Palin," my guy says again.
"Look," the guy says, becoming irritated on top of being arrogant, "Senator McCain cannot step out and defend Palin every single time someone says something bad about her."
"Can he do it once?"
Hang up.
He called back to get the guy's name. He got hung up on again.

... and that's how the John McCain campaign stands up for the one individual solely responsible for his not ending up electorally (and humiliatingly) routed, 49 states to 1.
No honor.
None what. so. EVER.
1) In the 19th century, the surest route to become president was to be Secretary of State. Name the last Secretary of State who won the presidency. (Hint: no one in the 20th century).
2) In the 20th century, the surest way to become president was to be a governor. But this election, both major candidates and one of the veeps was a senator.
3) Richard Nixon was a vice president under Ike, lost, came back to win on his own. TR won on his own in 1904, Truman won on his own in 1948, Coolidge in 1924, LBJ in 1964, and G. H. W. Bush in 1988. True, these were hold-overs from incumbent administrations, but still. Being vice president is not a disqualifier.
4) ALL the rules have changed. There is no reason Palin wouldn't be a strong candidate---but there is equally no reason anyone else, including Jindal, Mitt, or people we haven't heard of yet (remember how Obama came out of the blue?) won't compete. NOTHING will be handed to her, or anyone else.
You ignorant democrat...Sarah Palin is as qualified as Ronald Reagon was when elected. Stupid comes to mind when evaluating your statement...The natural progression to the Presidency is Mayor, Gov and then President. Senators only attend to hear and vote on laws...this is the most ludicrous argument ever...McCain would have lost in a landslide if not for Palin. Palin will be back and she will win, because that ignorant bunch of Mac’s campaign workers won’t be involved. They were the real drag.
Sarah is the front-runner right now, but she needs to prepare immediately if she’s going to give the WH a shot in 2012.
1.) If Stevens is expelled, which I think he will NOT be, she needs to run for that Senate seat and win. For some stupid reason, just being a Senator in Washington seems to equal being qualified. I don’t get it - but that’s the truth.
2.) She needs to get advisors working by next spring - experts to brief her on world affairs. She needs to make public statements on major policy issues during the next few years, to be on record.
We’ll see. I have a feeling senriority is going to win the day as usual, however......
Liberals think she's ignorant and unqualified. You're either a liberal yourself or a fellow-traveler with a bunch of socialist morons. I suspect the former.
I noticed the other night that the BBC radio pronounced Boehner as "Boner" several times. Maybe "boner" doesn't have the same connotation in the UK as here.
I already made note of that in a previous post. One of the main differences between Sarah and the losing VP candidates is obvious. None of those losers were women. The second is not so obvious. The other VP candidates, I believe, were all established politicians at the time, had a known national quantity, or at least were well-established in their own states in their contribution to the national scene. On the other hand Sarah was hardly known in the Lower 48 and just when the conservative movement was getting to know her the election came on November 4th and Sarah left the base begging for more, unlike most VP losing candidates. On December 2 Sarah proved her mettle by taking a candidate who was projected to win by 5 points on November 30 (RCP) and Insider Advantage (4 points) to a 15 point blowout. The proof is in the pudding and Sarah delivered big-time. The base of the GOP will not forget this as we move towards 2010 and 2012.

Not sure if you meant to reply to me or on this inactive thread.
It will be interesting to see what happens if (hopefully when) she campaigns on behalf of house, and senate candidates in 2010. If she does, and she is seen as helping to win seats, she’ll be unbeatable in 2012 as far as the nomination goes. A lot will depend on what obama’s job approval rating is in late 2010, to mid 2011. If it has dropped to about 45 or less, then her chances are real good.
I’d like to see her take advantage of Sarah Palin Radio. Making a public address once a week on an issue of importance, directly to the American people, without the filter of the media.

There is one important difference between Palin and all those in the list - she’s an attractive and charismatic woman.
(Ferraro is neither attractive nor charismatic, IMO.)
