I don't post often, can't remember my last and I certainly cannot remember my last vanity, so I guess I'm entitled to one every couple of years.
It is not uncommon for a departing Freeper to post an Opus listing all their grievances with the forum. Today I want to post my anti-opus for lack of better term.
Today marks my ten year anniversary on FreeRepublic.
First off, I'd like to thank Jim Robinson and his crew for the fantastic job they've done with this forum and how it has changed and improved from the early AOL days.
Yes, it was the White Water threads that got me hooked and I lurked for months before joining. (Back then it seemed protocol to lurk or stay quiet on a forum or site until you learned about the site; it was considered bad form to sign up and start posting the same day.)I was a regular on the Michael Reagan site before finding FR.
It was the March for Freedom that got me to sign up and I did it while watching it on tv. I saw the unabashed patriotism and love for country and knew I wanted to be associated with that group even if they were the last patriots in the country.
Again, thank you Jim for your courage and inspiration.
In the last 10 years we've been through WhiteWater, Arkancides and Alamo-Girl's research; the Impeachment saga which really soured my views on incumbent politicians on both sides of the aisle; the Million Mom March with the counter march of the Second Amendment Sisters that eventually put the MMM out of business; we've seen elections and the debacle on the Bush-Algore election where I got to meet Freepers in Tallahassee, FL protesting the court allowed selective recounts; later got a person front row seat to some of the action in Iraq while working for and alongside our fantastic troops.
We've been through Ash Alerts, Michaeal Rivero theories, Jack Thompson, Anti-Freepers, DU, DITHF, Classy Green-eyed blond, and a host of other famous/infamous distractions.
And yes, I've been a participant in countless WOD threads and even had my hands slapped a couple times! (Thank you Mods for the slack you cut me and I sincerely try not to abuse it!)
I've had the pleasure to meet a handful of Freepers in person and can't think fo finer people anywhere. My only regret on that is that I have ONLY met a handful of Freepers face to face...and will have to meet more in the future.
FR is my home on the web, almost always running in the background.
FR is a place where the mods do a find job of keeping it clean and respectible; a place you can send your friends and family to without fear of uncontrolled crassness and vulgarity. Except for the school boy scores with teacher threads...but only when the teacher is Not Guilty!
But really nothing is better than the gun porn threads on the banglist.
FR is a place to get credible information that can be substantiated, not just a collection of rumors and speculation. Again, the mods and fellow Freepers help keep posters honest and credible.
In closing I just want to again say thanks to Jim and the Mods and to my fellow Freepers with whom I've had the pleasure of exchanging smart a$$ comments, some insults and sarcastic remarks, as well as interesting and engaging debates and discussions.
Thanks FreeRepublic and tonight I hope y'all will join me in a toast for ten more years of Free Republic in a free republic!
Jim and his assistants do an outstanding job on this site, both technically and as moderators! But the fact is, this site is self policing. The people here are in fact great; they call folks to front and center when necessary, but also cut lots of slack too! Free speech survives because of FR!
Let's hear it for Jim! Hip, hip, hooray!
Let's hear it for fellow FReepers! Hip, hip, hooray!
Congratulations! Hey, this thread’s for you, too then.
Shouldn’t this be in Breaking News with other vanities???
My personal favorite disruptor of all time was the short-lived Toiletman. He just brought out something special in everyone. Mild-mannered FReepers who wouldn't say "poop" if they stepped in it were flaming him like a Texas oil well fire. Hooyah!
Good thing this is an anti-opus, because I have a hunch the best is yet to come. ;-)
Like you I wish I had the opportunity to meet more Freepers in person. I met so many at the House Managers Dinner, including Jim Robinson, But I am sad to say I can't remember them all now.
Thank You again Jim. And thank you Eagle Eye for reminding us.
Thanks... and to another 10!
LOL - I'm waiting to see who wins the election.
Or are ya gonna meet a nice local boy and settle down?
I got regular marriage proposals when I was working at the Ministry of Interior. Unfortunately, there was that "equally yoked" problem. :)
Here's to ten more great years for you on FR. {clink!} We'll have to have a beer one of these days when I'm back in Houston. (Less than 30 days 'til R&R, but I'm not counting or anything...)
There or here? Would be funny if it wasn't so true.
Oh yeah, when you get back, definitely, definitely!
Henceforth and for all time, this thread shall be known as “Eagle Eye’s Hallowe’en Nopus”....;-D
Bob Dylan said everybody needs to get stuned.
Lurked since '98, but it took the 2000 election to get me to sign on. I was too terrified of getting flamed to post!
Many congratulations, and many more years for us all.
Probably the worst movie I have ever seen (an office treat I couldn’t avoid.)
We are really pleased that we have been able to hold "Ladies Learn to Shoot" events in various states. We have trained literally thousands of women to shoot!
Okay, so you’re good to go but did you bring enough for *everybody*?

Well stated EE and from another 10 year vet, I have enjoyed every bit of our discussions and FR.

I found FR from a link on Drudge about the time I heard about this “White House Intern” story. Been hooked on politics ever since. Couldn't believe how criminal the Clintons were. Only thing is Obama makes them look look respectable.
For those who a new. FreeRepublic.com were the ones who started the Sore/Loserman saga and supported President Bush during the Florida Recount. "Get out of Cheney's House" was the DC Chapters doing. Those were some stressful times like this election but Justice prevailed.
Welcome all the new FReepers. Hope you get 10 years in also.
