A puppy adopted by a U.S. soldier has landed at Dulles International Airport outside the nation's capital, and is headed to Wisconsin this weekend.
The puppy, named Boo, belongs to Spc. Ashley Siwula, of Antioch, Ill. Her brother, Nick Mitcheff, of Salem, Wis., will watch the dog for Siwula.
The dog was one of six rescued by Operation Baghdad Pups, run by Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals International.
The group is returning to Iraq this weekend to pick up another batch of dogs, including a puppy named Ratchet adopted by a Minnesota soldier. That dog's cause has been championed by thousands of people from around the world after the soldier initially ran into problems getting it out of Iraq.
A little bit backwards, IMHO, but it's a start!
These pups probably gave a lot of our soldiers a lot of comfort and a connection to their humanity. Our kids over there have a crappy and thankless job especially when they are attacked by scum like Murtha.
I am sure these pups helped a lot of soldiers think about good times back home. Iraqis can set up orphaniges for the kids. They have tens of billions in oil money. I worry about Iraqi Christians who are being persecuted in Iraq.
I agree but unfortunately with our huge Dem mortgage crisis our shelters here are filled to the brim. I am pres. of a local humane society and we have dogs in the bathroom and kitchen, things are a mess.
Either way, this is a great org. and I am glad they are reuniting them with our troops.
If there’s a Freeper who has the email address for Mark Levin they should get this info to him, or better yet give him a call on the air (I can’t - I’m at work, alas!). The Great One has taken several calls from our finest over in Iraq who have had to leave their dogs behind or actually lost them in combat. He’s got a soft spot for dogs in general and these pets of our troops in particular. I bet he’s love to give them a plug if they’re in need of donations.
I’ve looked for an address for him but can’t find one. He loves Freep - anyone got a line to him?
You should look into transferring some of those dogs to Wisconsin. Some of our shelters take dogs from out of state because they have more prospective homes than dogs.
My mom’s little dog was transferred from a shelter in Indiana.
Probably is backwards but if people want to self-organize & raise money to do this, who are we question it?
Thanks for all you do for the pups. It is hard right now. We have a great HS shelter here in S FL that does a great job.
These doggies brought a lot of joy to our troops who have a thankless job.
