Banned for Saying Nice Things About Sarah, Or: My Secret Life as a Daily Kos "Troll"
10/16/2008 | I Art Laughing

I admit it, I HAD an account at Daily Kos. I will lamely attempt to defend myself by saying that it was a personal social experiment to see how long I could keep from being banned while posting cogent and unbiased comments and diaries. What did I find out? What we probably all already knew, the nutroots don't have a sense of humor, they are the only ones with any compassion, and anyone that is not similarly (extremely) liberal is not just insensitive but EVVVVILLL!

I lasted a bit longer than obvious dissenters/sane people (know at DKos as trolls) because I actually AM a libertarian and would occasionally post something that would get a recomendation from a TU (a "Trusted User"). When I would post anything in defense of Alaska (where I am from) after seeing it predujudically called "Seward's Icebox" my comments quickly got HR'd (hidden, troll recommended). The site itself discourages the use of "HR" for salient non-troll disagreements, I actually quoted this Kos in one thread on this matter (it was just a quote from Kos the head man over there and nothing else) only to have it "HR'ed" immediatly. We all knew that DKos was not a place for rational people, now I for one know why.

What finally got me "autobanned" (HR'd into silence) was my defense of Trig Palin. It was a diary put up by a man who claimed his sister had "Down's Syndrome" (yeah, that's right not Down, Down's) and how he was disgusted by Sarah's use of Trig as a political prop. I pointed out that he was being predjudical and how did he know what the Palins felt about Down Syndrome in their son? If the diarist claimed that she was using Trig as a crass ploy to garner votes how was he any different when he brought up his sister and started casting dispersions on the Palins?

Bu-by Daily Kos it was fun getting to know how ridiculous you whackos really are. have fun in you whacked "reality".

My sister has down’s syndrome and we bring her everywhere to this day and she loves it. We do EVERYTHING as a family. Even when she had knee surgery we still brought her to disneyworld in a wheelchair and she got to do a lot. Given the choice she’d rather be out with her family than home in a room with a sitter. Get that little baby out and used to the hustle bustle of life. It is so good for those kids. My sister is such a pistol today. We never treated her any differently. I admire Sarah Palin! It’s so much better to hav that baby out with you than home with a sitter. That’s probably what some liberal would do (if they hadn’t opted for an abortion that is). Go Sarah!!

Therein lies the "problem" in their eyes. Your sister has a family who loves and accepts her for what she can can't do. It doesn't matter that your sister has Down's Syndrome - she is part of a loving family. I'm sure there was never any question about that.

God Bless you, your sister and your family! You are what makes America who she is today.

So your plans are what? To troll FR?

You can get flamed to a smoking crisp here, but you have to be vulgar, racist, or hateful to others to get banned.

Welcome. We support FREE SPEECH.

(But you are totally responsible for the consequences.)

You should repost your diaries from Kos. I think they'd be even less welcome here.

There are many indicators that there is a secular shift underway as the appearance of a crisis is now looming over us. What does that mean? It means a rollback to more traditional values, xenophobia, nationalism, and conservative lifestyles. This shift is going to be massive and shocking in it's scale as progressive social positions get chucked overboard to save the sinking ship of culture. How is that going to affect an Obama presidency? How will he incorporate the cultural shift and crisis into his leadership approach? He's absolutely spot on, it WON'T be politics as usual.

What are some of the indicators? The poor reception of anti-War films at the box office and the lowest Acedemy Awards ratings. The lowest rated Emmys of all time and poor ratings among fall premiers.

There is a cultural backlash underway. McCain is going to be on the receiving end. Like Mr. Miyagi said "squash like grape".

Or this one:
As a "fellow" Alaskan I am stunned by Sarah Palin's bizarre mixture of down-homeyness, aping the memes of the hick-like T.V. culture of the 60's and 70's and collating a contrived vocabulary of "homespun" sayings that are laughable.  She didn't speak like that BEFORE she was John McCain's running mate. Her dad was a teacher for crying out loud, HE doesn't speak like that! Her Mother doesn't speak like that. As a sportscaster and a "journalist" I'm sure she was trained not to speak as she did in the "debate".  Honestly, when I heard Tina Fey spoof her for the first time I thought she was overdoing Palin's "accent" thing...now I don't think that is even possible.

Did she get abducted and held prisoner in Fargo by faux-potty mouth great-grand aunts? What is going on here?

Well, after all of that time over at DK I DID actually learn some things at their expense.

Also, when a diarist over there was posting that Trig was actually Bristol’s son I got it linked over at Drudge and those suckers were scurrying around like cockroaches.

Man, I would have really liked to have let them know that that was me.

As far as decontamination goes, I’m still working on it. Keep an eye on me. ;)

Nope, I’m not a troll. I just want to post my mind and have my points given a fair chance to be aired in the “market-place” of ideas.

I knew DKos was a screwed up mess when I went in. Did I miss something about FR? I don’t think I did, so no troll/flames from me unless you are one yourself. :)

Well, let’s see. The DKos Diary about Xenophobia was intially talking about a Obama and how he would lose in a landslide, I completely edited it, flipped the script to McCain instead of Obama. If my comments had not been HR’d by the thought police at DKos you might be able to see the intent of that diary.

The Palin diary WAS on point, she has gotten a little weird lately. I didn’t get any grief from them on that one.

When I lamppooned Obama for being a Marlboro man supporter I nearly got banned (even though I was drawing a ridiculous comparison between him and Ayer’s with it.)

As I clearly stated I in my post I was there under false pretenses and was guaging them for what was a “successful post” in their eyes. As “extreme” as i was I still got banned. Did I help them? What do you think, I think absolutely NOT.

I don’t feel a need to defend my posts on DKos any more than a hunter needs to defend wearing camo when he goes into the woods. As bad (liberal) as I was they still labeled me a “troll”.

Non-Currently Approved GROUP-THINK is no longer allowed on KOS.

And that can change DAILY, as new people become UNPERSONS (Cindy Sheehan, Paul Hackett, Hillary Clinton), or former hated enemies say bad things about Bush, then become welcome.

The 20+ ID Obamabots will see to that. If this is an example of the Democrat Idea of “Free Speech”, we are ALL truly screwed.

Nope, not a troll. We have the DU and KosKids cruise here; occasionally one will register and post some nonsense or hateful tome. They can never defend their views in a rational manner.

No one expects you or anyone else to follow a herd mentality. We have LOTS of disagreements and some of them get heated. Most folks here are mature and reasonable though.

Again, welcome.

You do realize that Down's Syndrome is a perfectly correct spelling, right?
