It isn’t that simple.
Don’t worry about stopping power. A modern 9mm defensive round (Gold Dot, Ranger etc) will do the job.
Keep in mind that the US military cannot use rounds like these and that is why they want to move back to the 45. They are stuck with FMJ rounds which do not perform well - little to no expansion.

There is no such thing a a handgun with “stopping power”. This implies that a hit anywhere will stop a threat instantly.
