Is it ever appropriate to give water to an infant 6 months or younger? If so, how much?
In light of the information provided in this blog posting; what say you?

May I refer you to a web site...medline plus.
1. too much water will take the place of formula, babies need calorie.
2. too much water in an already small circulating system can overload the cns. not good.
3. why are you wanting to give water and not formula. the baby needs nutrition. breast milk or formula will give them plenty of water.

We have five children, and stay up to speed on all things with regard to pediatric health with my wife being a nurse. I’ve never heard of water being harmful for children six months and under.
Of course being six months or less, all of our children only had breast milk at that age.

No water?
What are you going to give them?
Powdered milk with no water in it?
How stupid...
LOL
I guess if you gave the baby enough water you could drown them.

I agree. I never gave water until they were able to drink from a sippy cup.

It took forever for the link to pull up, so yes, I’m commenting without reading it. I don’t think the warning is telling people not to give infants “water” that is mixed with other things (e.g., formula, rice cereal), they are stating that you shouldn’t give an infant under 6 months old water as a thirst satisfier because they should be having breast milk or formula at that age in order to meet their nutritional needs.
Now, if you’re having a heat wave & your kiddo is sweating, he/ she won’t keel over if you give him 3 oz of water.
I.e., don’t attempt to replace your child’s main food source with water.

“I agree. I never gave water”
LOL!
Everything they ate and drank had water in it.
Are you saying that H2o in pure form is a killer?
Lol!

By six months they should have long since learned from the dogs how to ask to go outside .

Funny how we all grew up and survived despite the admonitions of government entities.
I was 11 years old when my baby sis was born and we made her so called formula.... corn syrup and cows milk! Heaven forbid! She should be dead now, right!
Actually doing quite fine as a forty yr old mom of three boys.
How the heck did that happen without government involvement??? Dang!

I cried non-stop until Mom figured out I wanted water. She’d give me a little every few hours. Turned me into a happy camper.
