Free Republic Scammed Me and Zotted my (Vanity)
FreeRepublic | October 3, 2008 | Me

Yesterday, I was on FreeRepublic and read an article. There was a prompt that said I could download something that would help the GOP if I did. It is somehow affiliated with Yahoo.

Well, long story short, it is garbage. It takes me a few minutes to get on the internet. When I hit my homepage (msn), my screen goes white and at least 2 or 3 minutes later, I get the internet. I tried to call FreeRepublic to report and could not find a phone number in Fresno. Somebody tell me how to get this crap off.

Easiest thing to do is uninstall and reinstall your browser. I do it every once in a while with firefox when I get stupid and install an add-on I don’t like. You don’t lose your bookmarks, either. I don’t use explorer. I’m pretty sure firefox will let you import your favorites from explorer.

Take two of these and DON'T post another friggin stoopid vanity in the morning. If you are still confused, call your health insurance -- mental health coverage is now required in the Socialist bill just passed, so you can go see a shrink on the taxpayer's dime.

That looks like the love-child of Mr. Bean and the lead singer from the Bloodhound Gang.

Why do that when you can just remove the add-on that's giving trouble? And if you're not sure which one, use this program to back up Firefox in general.

Get Malware Bytes. It's free, and it will remove almost anything. Here is a link.

It's one of the best malware removal programs I have ever used.

I agree. I picked up trojan.blusod this past week. Some of my problems were my screen's background would be all white and IE would run poorly. Also itunes would not connect. I was able to find the trojan with Norton, but the problem was within my registry. Norton could not fix that. Norton would quarantee the trojan, but since my registry was corrupted, the problems would reappear on the next reboot. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware help me resolve the reboot problem. I used 'jv16 PowerTools' to clean up my registry (free at cnet.com).

I spoke with my IT support at my company and they recommended I run Super Anti-Spyware, but I had it resolved by the time they told me that, so it did not find anything wrong.

That information is about 10 years old. I stand by what I said - you run MacOS and you don’t get infected like on Windows. No need to pick nits by replying to this, as I’m infallible in my knowledge of this.
