NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. -- The service dog to a 5-year-old girl with cerebral palsy was shot point-blank in an alley behind the house. The gunshot shattered the dogs hind leg.
Pumba was the best friend and lively motivator of Kathleen Micholas, 5, but is now forced to hobble around on three legs.
The organization Animal Protectors of New Kensington came to the rescue to provide cash for veterinarian bills for a temporary cast for the dogs shattered leg. However, an expensive operation costing thousands of dollars will likely be necessary in order to save Pumbas leg.
Animal Protectors is asking people to donations for Pumbas operation.
Police said they have no suspects in the shooting.
Hopefully karma will visit the perpetrator(s) in the form of a couple rabid rottweilers.
Prayers for all concerned. A terrible action against a dog, whether or not the shooter knew that it was a service dog;and, a terrible waste of the training and money to produce a service dog.
And now for this important DOGGIEPING Announcement!
I've lost my list! I did a deep clean of my computer and I guess inadvertently deleted the folder I kept the ping list in.
If you were previously on my ping list and would still like to be on the list now, please let me know... I am re-building the list from scratch!
When the perp is caught, I suggest a similar act as punishment for him: take him into a dark alley, shoot him in the leg, be sure the bones are shattered, and leave him. It’d be especially nice if there are lots of hungry rats with sharp teeth hiding in the shadows. Ah, sweet justice.
People who harm dogs... there’s nothing lower.
I agree or maybe throw them in a cage of hungrey lions.
There’s something wrong in that area of the state. Did you notice the link to this story, at the station’s website:
MASONTOWN, Pa. — A newborn calf has been skinned at a Masontown farm, making it the third cow to be attacked there in two weeks.
Farmer Lou Diamond said he found the three-day-old animal Monday morning at his Nicholson Township farm on Jacobs Creek Road.
He said the calf’s collar had been cut and the animal’s neck had been skinned. Diamond said a Uniontown veterinarian is treating the 87-pound Holstein female named Sugar Lump.
Diamond said two other newborn calves at his farm have died after being skinned alive in the last two weeks.
He said three state police and a bloodhound were looking for evidence at his farm on Monday.
A $1,500 reward is being offered for information in this case.
There is something very alarming happening to our society when it’s starting to produce people who would kill or kidnap service dogs for handicapped or sick children.
I’m glad that the local animal rescue group is taking up donations for the dog’s care - I wish they would have put up info on how or where the donations could be made.
I did find their website though, and it has contact information for their group on there...
God be with you, Pumbaa, and I can only hope justice will be brought to your attackers (by any means neccesary)...
Although my page says I reside in Louisiana (which I actually do) I'm presently working in the northeast and came across this item while spending a few days at my folk's place in western PA (where I grew up), so I figured I'd post it.
The first place I'd check for suspects would be the local PD SWAT team...

Please put me on your list.
Off topic question...How do you do a deep clean on computer?
I’ve never heard of this!
Back on the "doggie ping" list, please, and FReegards as always! ; )

For some reason I think there is alot more to this story than what got printed.
Karma?
I think we are a bit more informed here than to accept such pagan ignorance. Did you mean Retribution? It’s guaranteed.
I think he means doing a DOD erase of unwanted files.
Apparently we're not informed enough here to realize that most, if not all, English language dictionaries offer a number of non-theological definitions for "karma," as a synonym for simple fate or destiny.
Simple fate and destiny are fictional, humanistic concoctions, just like karma, and the ‘reincarnation’ that it implies. The Lord knew us “from the foundations of the world.”
