Obama, Oprah, and the Guru: Malignant Narcissism
American Thinker ^ | September 28, 2008 | Robert Bowie Johnson, Jr.

Grandiosity, more than anything else, is what characterizes Obama's character and campaign. Grandiosity is also, more than anything else, what characterizes narcissism, and Obama's narcissism messiah -- the anointed one." David Limbaugh writes of the "unspeakably presumptuous extravaganzas as those [that] feted Mr. Obama at Berlin and Invesco Field."

In reference to Obama's narcissism, Charles Krauthammer asks, "[H]as there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?" Sam Vaknin, Ph.D., author of Malignant Self Love: Narcissism Revisited, writes that "Barack Obama appears to be a narcissist," and offers a detailed explanation.

Obama's entire campaign is nothing more than a demand to be recognized as superior without commensurate accomplishments. For individual instances of the undistinguished senator's grandiosity, please see Barack Obama Audacity Watch.

Two other very reliable witnesses to Obama's narcissism are Oprah Winfrey and her guru, Eckhart Tolle, both themselves pathological narcissists. Delusions of grandeur interpersonally connect Obama, Oprah, and her guru. All three believe they can, even that that they must, change the world for the better, and that means garnering for themselves more and more adulation, what the psychologists call "narcissistic supply."

The public record shows this: First, within the minds of Barack and Michelle Obama resides the grandiose, even megalomaniacal notion that they have the power to make the world as-it-is into the world-as-it-should be. Second, the Obamas look to talk-show host, Oprah Winfrey, as their "global role model" to effect this change. Third, as the Obamas' model for change, Oprah relentlessly promotes the grandiose New Age religion of her guru, Eckhart Tolle.

A closer look at these three narcissists and their widely-ignored interconnections is in order

The Malignant Narcissism of Oprah's Guru

Oprah's guru Eckhart Tolle is a troubled and troubling individual.

Excellent article.

One more character that needs to be remembered with these narcissists is SOROS (”an” or “the” antichrist) who’s quietly and invisibly fused with Obama (the mouthpiece).

I am afraid that, if Obama becomes POTUS, his narcissism will progressively get worse. At some point, he could lose his marble.

Thank you the article was a great read and right on the mark.

Let’s not forget the supreme pain of the narcissist - that of avoidance behavior in the journey of discovery of self that we all must travel if we are to be truly connected to our space in the world and our place in effecting our lives through profitable and meaningful living.

How painful it must be for naricissists to look in the mirror on occasion to examine what must be hidden and covered from the real world knowing they are fabrications stitched from what they believe to be acceptable traits in society.

The only ones they fool are themselves - and in so doing waste their own meaningful lives of what ‘could have been’.

People like Oprah and BO think financial gain and fame attained are what life is all about. Truth is, they don’t come close to what beauty can be found in finding oneself
and one’s purpose in a lifetime. Reality becomes their foe and their period of fame is spent fleeing furiously away from being found out.

You can’t blind the world with baubles and meaningless words. These are only tricks to stay safely hidden.

When times get tough. These people fall apart and blame each other, then rail against God.

Excellent prediction.

Narcissists are always on a solo flight - they only share when it includes promotion of self.

In the Oprah and BO trade-off - it is no more than advertising - without concern for the audience - only that the message is believed.

I’ve been saying for about a year now that Barry is all about using the techniques from the book The Secret. I read it and while there are some fairly good suggestions it is pretty much (mostly) new age fluff...BUT by reading it it is extremely obvious that he believes he is Prez.-the plane, Prez seal, etc...Oprah is really big on “manifesting” and “creating your own reality”and so on..gotta go...later night than usual...with some beverages...coffee has not kicked in yet...

I think the term "narcissism" and comparisons to Oprah and new-age gurus minimizes the toxicity of Barack Obama.

This is more accurate:

Profile of the Sociopath

That is for sure. I wish she'd go away. When her African academy opened she said she has bought real estate there and will retire nearby. I wish she'd hurry up and do so. I mean we got Micheal Jackson off the continent. Madonna moved out of the country but unfortunately she keeps leaking back in.

Agreed OB has sociopathology tendencies in his makeup but I see him being led by other sociopathologists who feed his narcissistic tendencies.

He is not strong or tested enough to be absolutely driven by his pathology YET. He retains many needs and insecurities. True insanity leaves little room for self-doubt.

He may develop eventually into full-blown insanity if he continues on this made up course being dictated by others when he comes to believe he is truly what his teachers and creators have promised him. We see this with some religious ‘dictators’, international leaders who are built up by crowds proclaiming their perfection and unfortunately some politicians.

It would seem to me from his very early days intuiting his place in life with so many significant others moving him from place to place, changing his name, his homelife, his religious motivations - or whatever we can call them - belief and ideologies, even to his not quite finishing his academic goals - he leaves a trail of unfinished business - not the “driven by detail” work of a true sociopath.

But he is well on his way especially if the fawning adoration of those who truly believe him give him enough comfort to end his quest for acknowledged perfection by the lesser public.

As long as he is not stripped of the disguise and truth betrays him he may play his role adequately for many years.

Agreed - the seals are a ‘tell’ about BO’s insecurities.

He must by need surround himself with identifiers to warn people he is seriously into what he is preaching and does not welcome naysayers.

This too is actually done in fear and defense mechanisms because if someone puts a crack in his armor - he may never seal it again. He is intelligent enough to know there are many better at his game of manipulation who see him for what he is.

Team BO - the solo player. No doubt he will design presidential and white house regalia such as robes, hats, and symbols as well as jewelry - to enhance his royal goals.
(Much like animals in the wild leave their scented spray.)

Even if Obama gets elected (still iffy...election’s more than a month away), he’s setting his followers up for a huge disappointment. Like a typical lib Obama has promised his devotees and worshippers the world. Obviously he won’t be able to deliver. What do they, his followers, believe Obama will be able to do for them? Certainly government has failed mightily every time it tries to step into the realm of personal responsibility. But you can see and hear from the looks on their faces and their responses that they think the millenium will have come. Instead their lives, with typical lib interference, are far more likely to get worse than better. Liberalism has been a gigantic failure in every area it’s interposed itself. Obama’s reign of liberal terror would be no different.

He is not strong or tested enough to be absolutely driven by his pathology YET.

I disagree.

This is a much longer and accurate, IMHO, assessment of Obama, as he is now, and his influence on his followers, and there's not much I disagree with:

Understanding Obama: the Making of a Fuehrer

Don't be put off by the title -- the author makes very strong points with many specifics in the text, but it's a long read.

I prefer the term "sociopath," but "pathological narcissism" is basically the same thing.

Thanks for the article you posted - I don’t mind a long read - in fact it was so interesting it went quickly for me - I hope others will read it.

The point I was making about Narcissism and Pathology is the degree of impairment. Perhaps the link to another set of comparisons would help explain what I was getting at:

http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/7-10-2006-101743.asp

I think BO is still an early narcissist but if he continues along a successful lifepath of getting his issues met, he will devolve into more expectation of love and attention from his audience with less empathatic direction towards others. If this is the direction BO is headed he will make a very bad political leader.

At the present time he still has personality glitches of insecurity (narcissism) whereas the full-blown anti-social pathology leaves no room for introspection.

I hope I have cleared up the differences I use in my own speech and thought - not necessaraly cast in stone either!

This is one quote from the essay I linked:
(Millon, Th., Davis, R. - Personality Disorders in Modern Life - John Wiley and Sons, 2000). “Narcissists are simply indifferent, callous and careless in their conduct and in their treatment of others. Their abusive conduct is off-handed and absent-minded, not calculated and premeditated like the psychopath’s.”
