KEY WEST, Fla. -- The famed six-toed cats at Ernest Hemingway's island home aren't going anywhere.
The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum announced Thursday it reached an agreement with the federal government that lets the 50 or so cats continue roaming the grounds, ending a five-year battle that could have resulted in them being removed or caged.

Here’s a question for you cat people.
I have a 1-year-old tabby who occasionally likes to find a soft spot like a pillow or my belly and repeatedly rock from left front paw to right front paw, stomping them until the little toes bend upward.
Is he just stretching, or what? Is this normal, or is he “special?”

Many cats do that depending on how much they miss their mom. Some say if a kitten is removed from its mother too young it increases the odds the cat will knead (some call it making bread). A lot of happy cats do it.

This fella was tragically separated from mommy at a very young age.
He fit in a coffee cup.

Your his mommy, then. Take good care of him. I bet he’s good boy.

Quite personable. And now that he’s fixed, no more marking!
Thanks for the info. With the real name “kneading,” I can read all about it.
Luckily for him, he doesn’t know his mommy was eaten by a coyote.

Poor baby! He’s lucky to be alive! My guys were strays and their history can only be guessed at.
Today they are happy and care free and making sure everyone keeps laughing.

it's still Caturday ...somewhere It's Caturday at meowmeow's house. But it got off to a bad start when DH accidently locked girl cat in the basement before he went to bed. She was traumatized when we found her this morning - we didn't yell at her for having to improvise a litter box. Hopefully she'll think twice before sneaking down there again.
Glad Hemmingway's kitties will be left to their inheritance. I've toured there - nice place, friendly kitties, STINKS LIKE CAT PISS! But that still smells better than the rest of Key West's establishments...
