Ten years earlier he had an assistant to research the WWI battlefield sites and help him write a visitor's manual. The assistant was Major Dwight D. Eisenhower, who got valuable experience studying the terrain of France and established important connections to Gen. Pershing and the man who recruited Pershing - George Marshall.
