Points/Questions McCain needs to bring up in the economic debate

Posted on 09/26/2008 8:44:21 PM PDT by FiscalConservative1985

If any of you have contacts with higher ups in the McCain camp, PLEASE let them see these points/questions that McCain should bring up in the economic debate. It is imperative that he perform better in the debate entirely on economics. Questions he should try to nail Obama on to produce specifics: 1) What is the maximum percentage of income that a person should pay in taxes to government? I'd love to see Obama squirm in trying to answer that. 2) Why are you in favor of increasing the capital gain tax when it decreases federal government revenues? 3) How exactly are we going to get off of foreign oil in 10 years through "alternative energy"? Government subsidies in ethanol are clearly a disaster, so what "miracle" alternative energy is going to solve our energy needs in 10 years, if we refuse to drill more for oil and NG and refuse to build more nuclear plants. 4) Name a country that became more economically prosperous by increasing taxes on the highest wage earners?

Points McCain should make 1) Government intervention into alternative energy through ethanol subsidies has directly increased the price of corn tremendously, which leads to higher food prices which affect all Americans. 2) Depending on foreign oil actually hurts the environment more than drilling here, because we have much stronger safeguards, and do not experience pipeline bombings like in Nigeria. 3) Senator Obama's tax hikes on the rich do not offset the 800 billion in new spending he proposes, so he is actually proposing an administration that would be LESS fiscally responsible than McCain's. 4) (this depends on how the bailout bill ends up) Nail Obama for supporting the Bush/Paulson bailout of Wall Street which puts taxpayers at risk. Say that Obama is the one who is an extension of Bush on economic policy, not McCain. Say that you support the House Repub. plan which makes Wall Street bail out Wall Street.

I would love to hear McCain stop whining about Wall Street corruption and school Obama on the nexus of credit expansion, the Welfare State, and the business cycle that caused our current crisis. Since I doubt McCain has ever read a whole book on economics, I doubt he’d be able to.

Good points. I wonder if McCain even knows that the cap gains tax cut produced more revenues?

Business taxes (taxing the rich, as the class warfare bastards put it) are passed along to the consumer, to the entire economy, thus any mythical tax cuts to middle Amewrica accompanied by tax hikes on the higher income brackets net out as increases in cost of living especially to those too poor to be paying taxes. Thus cutting taxes to 95% of Americans—aside from being an outright lie since it is not 95% of Americans paying taxes that would be cut—but raising taxes on ‘the wealthy’—which are 99% of the small businesses in America—is a net increase in cost of living to those not able to pay taxes. Liberals are such ‘compassionate despots’ don’tchaknow.

Would someone mention the cost of gas as well? Taxes are a given, but we really need gas to go down here at our house.
We do alright financially. We’re not rich, but we made it every month. This gas is killing us. We’ve had to give up a lot. Nothing wrong with sacrificing, I’ve done it all my life, especially as a child, but these are things which are important to us.

Like education, several trips a months to doctors across town, taking the kids places, going to church, driving home to see Mom’s in Texas. We can’t go home to see our mothers because we can’t afford $500 round trip cost of gas.

Blah, blah, blah...but that’s my big issue in my family now.

Head’s up McCain.

He should hammer Obama and the Dems for feeding the pork (ACORN) 20% of 700 billion bailout bill.

He needs to make the many connections -— Acorn's failed housing, voter fraud, Obama as their lawyer & lead organizer.

Another queation;

Senator Obama, given the fact that 96+% of the Federal Income Tax Revenue is paid by the top 50% of income earners, how is it possible to give tax breaks to the "95% of taxpayers" and still have revenue to support $800 billion, or whatever number is your proposing this week?

And does that number, whatever it is, include the $250 billion you added in the last debate when asked what government expenditures you would cus?

Obama: Nothing wrong with higher-gas prices, he appreciates a gradual price rise!

People need to know just how much money this fool is planning to send away in foreign aid. Just yesterday, while Congress was actively debating this fundamentally screwed up bailout at MY expense, Obama said in his speech at the Clinton event that he wants to increase foreign aid, promote global education and buy 730 million mosquito nets for Africa to help fight malaria! I consider this a slap in the face and other responsible, mortagage paying taxpayers should know about this. It’s not enough that I have just been called upon to bailout greed, bad business, irresponsible homeowners....now he want me to go forth and feed the world. Sorry, BO..not feeling that generous today.

Ok, this isn't economic, but I think it's a critical foreign policy point that is never discussed by anyone regarding Iraq.

Let's play out Obama's scenario...let's say we never went into Iraq in the first place. What would be happening today? Well, Iran and Iraq would be involved in a nuclear arms race today. With these two countries being sworn enemies, the race would accelerate significantly. What would be the role of the the US? How do you stop this? What could we possibly do?

Talk about a doomsday scenario! We'd be trying to come up with options to deal with TWO rogue countries not just one. Can you imagine dealing with this problem? Seriously, having both Iran and Iraq developing nuclear weapons today would be a nightmare...we averted a real world catastrophe by going into Iraq and Bush should get credit for it.

I firmly believe that Bush's decision to invade Iraq always had more to do than just the WMD issue. It was also a recognition of Iraq's strategic location and the military need for the US to control this space for our future security. I'm glad we're there.

What I want to know is very simple - and it applies to this debate and the campaign in general. Why is it that the Republican Party doesn't dare to explain the one obvious difference between the two parties:

Wealth Redistribution Is The Foundation Of Communism

The ENTIRE DemonRat Party platform leads to SOCIALISM, and eventually COMMUNISM.

TAKE OFF THE FRICKIN GLOVES AND TELL THE TRUTH!! The voters who are not decided yet are also not very knowledgeable about the difference between the parties.

McCain needs to expose the source of this economic crisis and the hypocrisy of the Rats and their role in creating this mess. He needs to get this U-Tube clip out to “ Main Sreet to get the troops to the windows to yell they are “Mad as Hell and not going to take it any more !!!!!!
