He would “um” and “ah” and stutter until his teleprompter was updated, and then read a statement from it condemning McCain’s decision as racist and declaring that Sarah should be home with the kids instead of debating him.
Actually, a Vice President is often sent on minor missions when the President is busy, such as attending a funeral for a foreign head of state.
So, why not? If Obama says “No,” how will that make him look? If he says “Yes,” And then stands there looking snooty at her, Sarah will wipe the floor with him.
Ain’t gonna happen—it’s just too good to be true. But we can always hope.

You can bet that McCain has an end game to this strategy. You KNOW he’s not going to let Obama debate an empty stage. I’m betting that it’s been in the works the entire time to send Gov. Palin to debate Obama because Senator McCain is too busy working to fool with partisan politics.

The first debate was to have been about economics but the Obama camp had it changed to foreign affairs. What is the point of stopping everything for that at the moment? At the very least, the first debate should be about the issue of the day.
I think this would be an INCREDIBLY STUPID STUNT and be seen as such by a majority.
I think McCain should either offer to send Palin or just have her show up in his place.
There is no downside. If she does poorly, big deal she is the VP candidate stepping in on very short notice.
If she holds her own or beats Barry it would be a disaster for Obama.
If Barry refuses to debate her he will look like the wimpy, little girly-man he is.
The rules don’t matter, Obama can waive them if he has the guts.

First, that is what suspending his campaign means.
Secondly, otherwise it would look like she’s not worthy of being in on the big-boy stuff when it’s crunch time.
Third, she’ll get an education she won’t forget and real fast.
