The paper’s headline editor apparently can’t read— it’s not a starfish, it’s a lichen that just looks like a starfish.

Other than that it’s nice to know there’s always more to discover.

But, by thinking small, scientists have discovered new species of lichen clinging like microscopic starfish to Yosemite icons such as El Capitan, Half Dome and Vernal Falls, and countless slabs of less famous rock.

Curses, foiled again! Despite our best, eeeevil conservative schemes to roll back environmental protections and poison our oceans, new species are still being discovered! How could this happen?! Where's Karl Rove when you need him?!?
