The paper’s headline editor apparently can’t read— it’s not a starfish, it’s a lichen that just looks like a starfish.

Other than that it’s nice to know there’s always more to discover.

I did notice that, but at Free Republic we have strict rules about headlines. The San Jose Mercury put "lichen" in the headline, but starfish sounds cooler.

Besides, what's the difference between an echinoderm and a symbiotic association of a fungus and a photosynthetic partner, anwyway?

BTW piasa, starfish are not *fish* and should actually be called sea stars .... according to my resident biologist. Talk about getting it wrong ...ttwwiiccee!
