A much better Sci Fi of that period was Fantastic Planet. I tried to order it from Netflix but they listed it as unknown availability.

I think you probably mean Forbidden Planet. That one surely is available at Netflix. Fantastic Planet is a European animated sci-fi film from 1973, which Netflix may or may not have.

I got Fantastic Planet on DVD from amazon a few years back. You might check it out.
