If you want to be good with a pistol, join the IDPA.

Or, if you want to learn how to shoot rifle/pistol/shotgun better than the IDPA guys, join USPSA.

USPSA

I’d never part with my single stage gear. But for masses of ammo, there’s nothing quite like Dillon equipment. :-) I’ve read that people load “accurized” ammo on Dillon. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve read.

Reminds me of the rhyme...

A pistol by the bed
A shotgun by the door
A 223/308/30-06 for reaching out
You don’t need any more.

Now excuse me while I shoot off to the range and blast some clays...

Spend some money for a decent gun belt - thick and stiff enough to hold together under the stress of holstering. It will last you for years. Oddly, mine seems to have shrunk...

Hmmmmmm, they seem to do that! I normally carry a Springfield .45 XD compact in a Galco holster on a very nice and heavy 2 1/4 in. wide Bianchi belt . I have had this belt for about 15 years. Recently, I relented to the fact that it is not good to have it (uncomfortably) pegged in the last hole. I had to take it to a good leather shop to get it extended 2 1/2 inches. Now, I love it again!

Thanks for the reminder. It took three years to contact a member of a club to get started and I was in it for ten years.

Unfortunately, the M-1’s are starting to look pretty bad. I haven’t bought one in two years because the last one looked nasty.

The one in picture came from CMP about three years ago.

I think CMP has always been hit or miss. Earlier this year I got a service grade H&R in fantastic condition. Haven’t taken pics of that one yet.

1.Vote Republican. Don't give that stuff about RINO's. I know who defends our gun right and it isn't the dems.

If I have a choice between a dem who is strong on RKBA and a rino who isn't, guess who I'm gonna vote for.

The anti-gun rino every time.

Why?

Because that one pro-RKBA dem legislator won't/can't affect the cause, but will add to the dem majority so that Reid or Pelosi can.

Big scavenger hunt to try to put one of these together, probably can't be done any more. DSA does sell the Israeli heavy barrel for around 300.

I’m very interested in test firing this combo .... would you make a thread when you get it? I’d love to hear your opinion.

Taurus owners of other models I know talk about hit and miss quality and service. I’d sure appreciate your info.

It did help in Ohio but now we have to worry just how much support the Ohio governor is going to give to obama since it’s a battleground state.

My support of a NRA life member tried and true defender of the Second Amendment would go straight out the window as soon as that guy gave any support to obama, kennedy, schumer or hillary.

dems are gun grabbing, baby killing, tax raising @#$^%&$ and I’ll let you know some more when I stop holding back.

My own add.

Whe practicing with your handgun, use Shoot N See tagets. Instant feedback.

As you get better, buy smaller bullseyes. You will see a difference.

Aim small, miss small.

A couple things I learned with a Rock Chucker, since I couldn’t afford a Dillon:
Get the hand priming tool.
Get some cheap plastic bowls, half gallon or bigger.
Get a good powder chucker, emphasis on good.
Get the micrometer adjustment screw for the RCBS powder chucker. The thing it comes with is an abomination.
Get more loading blocks than you think you will need.

Fill a bowl with cases as you inspect them.
Size and deprime them, throwing them into another bowl.
Use the hand priming tool to prime them, then throw the primed cases into an empty bowl.
Stand them in the loading trays.
Charge the cases in the trays. This has to be done carefully to avoid uncharged cases.
Seat the bullets and throw them into an empty bowl.
Crimp the cartridges and throw the finished ammunition into another bowl.
If you really want to count them, count them, otherwise just dump them into Zip Loc bags.

I could do about 200 an hour this way.

I do things a wee bit different.

I have the RCBS APS Bench Priming Tool. With arthritic hands it is easier handling the strips than single primers.

I use a number of poly loading blocks from Sinclair. 4 for each cal. I load.

My steps are:

Tumble in walnut shells 1 hour or so.
Size & deprime
Tumble in corncob & brass polish 1 hour
Inspect, clean & uniform primer pocket, reshape flash hole.
Trim, deburr, and final inspect
Prime and load in tray
Charge with powder and transfer to next tray
NOTE: I use RCBS powder measure with micrometer & baffle. I weigh every 5th charge.
Inspect that full tray has even powder level. No empties or double charges.
Seat bullet
Crimp using Lee factory crimp die.
Test final cartridge in a go / no gage
Box & label.

I load .38spl, .357mag, .45ACP, and 30.06.

I got my start back in 2000. I had bought a case of .357 ammo online from some hack who I will not name. Yeah, I was stupid. I was getting mis-fires. 1 or 2 out of 6. NOT GOOD. I discussed it with a owner of a Gun Store near me and he found the ammo had the primers set too deep. I thought I could do better. So I bought the RCBS deluxe reloading kit, and a hammer to take the bad stuff apart. In the process of redoing those I found one that did not even have a flash hole!!!

Needless to say, I am about the most anal reloader out there . . . [grin] I really don't trust any ammo I did not load. The stuff I did load I almost trust.

From one freeper to another, I would urge you to reconsider the HighPoint .45
Mine is a paper weight. It was the first gun I ever bought and it is kind of like the “My First Sony” line of products that are walkmen for children: all plastic, big bulky features, and not made to last forever.
I have actually heard good reviews of the HighPoint 9mm, but if I could do it all over again, I would have invested a little bit more in getting a used .45 from a better name brand.
