I've been thinking alot about this election season as of late. I've looked back at the ups and downs, the highs and lows of this whole festival we call the presidential elections. What a roller coaster ride it has been, and that ride has brought me to this thread and feeling the need to vent a bit.
When this whole zoo kicked off, I was and to a large degree remain a full-throated supporter of Duncan Hunter. One can only imagine how energized the conservative cause would have been with a Hunter/Palin ticket if that had occurred. For whatever reason or blame anyone cares to mention, the Hunter campaign never got off the ground in any meaningful way. Instead I was having to face considering supporting a Fred Thompson or maybe Mitt Romney, but any thought of supporting John McCain was not part of my thought process.
Yet, when it was clear that McCain had managed to pull victory from the jaws of defeat I began to take stock of how he managed to do that. His campaign was at an all time low, and clearly was wobbling on very weak legs. Instead of giving up of backing down he stayed on the trail. He worked very hard and fought back into this race. While I profoundly disagree with Sen. McCain on issues like immigration, campaign finance reform, and other critical issues - I found myself admiring his absolute resolve to keep going via taking his campaign TO the people. It is the fighting spirit that frankly has been sorely missing in our party for sometime now. I still had major reservations about the man, but he had regained some of my respect beyond what he always had as a former veteran and POW.
As his candidacy took form and became more defined, he clearly began to display conservative values, which I initally viewed with considerable suspicion as many other conservatives did, and many still do. He admitted that the American people had spoken about immigration and wanted border security first and he would obey that clear mandate. I'm still leary of his whole immigration stance, but his recognition of who he works for is a positive sign for now. He spoke about his support for maintaining the tax cuts was a strong conservative sign. He absolute support for Pro-life values is also something that is to be positively recognized.
When he offered the VP slot to a conservative like Gov. Palin I realized that he was very serious about winning this election, that he had no intention of being a "sacrafice" to the religion of Obama. He made the right decisions, throughout this whole campaign season to put him in a very good position to defeat The Annointed One. Our POTUS is someone who is expected to make critical decisions about many matters that can have profound effects on each of us and our daily lives. McCain, this election cycle, has been making a rock solid case that we can trust him to make good decisions on literally life or death issues if elected.
I then looked back at the Dimocraps and their winding journey through the primary season up to today. While repubicans largely debated their views on policy, the Dims practiced the same ol identity politics that they have always done. This time around it grew even more intense as their primary season draged on with the war between Camp Obama and Camp Clinton - that is clearly still "on" no matter that they say to our faces. The difference in their view of our nation, how they debated, how often race and gender was the issue and not policy. The differences between the Republican Primaries and the Democratic Primaries could not be more distinct.
That difference is even greater now that we are squarely in the general campaign season. McCain/Palin talk about the exceptionalism of America, they talk about policy, they talk about substance. What have we seen from our Dim counterparts? Simply put: the politics of personal destruction. Yeah, they have belched out a vew vague policy stances, but true to The Annointed One's prior campiagn tactics, they seek to destroy their opponenets on a personal level, and not debate the facts and policies that will impact our lives. I believe that the reason these people can't debate our side on substance, is that they know as certainly as we do that they lose that debate everytime. They will lose on substance, and they lose on the quality of leadership of each candidate. Obama is not worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as McCain when it comes to leadership caliber and moral backbone. Biden is so clearly inferior to Palin in so many areas that is it laughable. I am looking forward to the upcoming debates: unless something very surreal happens - the American People will see the yawning gap between the communist vitrol of the Dim candidates, and the shining positive excetionalism of true conservative values.
I never would have thought I would have said this a year or so ago: I'm totally supporting Sen. John McCain for POTUS, and I'm hoping that we not only retain the White House, I also hope that we can make gains in Congressional elections as well. I guess we'll see...but for the first time in about two years I'm feeling better about the possibilities than ever.
As a former Duncan Hunter supporter, I agree with you totally and followed the same thought process.
Hope McCain beats Hussein.
Many of us feel just like you.
BHO is still in the race because he’s never been thoroughly vetted and the dems are partly to blame. One thing I believe is much greater impact is the outright BHO advocacy by the MSM on a level never seen in an a general election. I say it adds up to an additional 100 million worth of free air, subliminal messages to the electorate, and general cozy pr.
For as much as we are aware of B. Hussein Obama’s shortcomings, lack of experience, and knack-for-being-wrong-on-just-about-everything, the reality is that he has a very good chance of being the next POTUS.
While the national polls have this race pretty much tied, they are meaningless, as one has to look at the electoral college map. McCain has a slight edge at the moment according to the Rove map, but the toss-up states are mostly leaning B. Hussein Obama.
The keys to defeat the closet muslim socialist will be winning Ohio (currently leaning to McCain I believe), Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin (currently leaning to B. Hussein Obama). Nevada and Colorado are likely going for McCain and New Mexico, I’m sad to say, will likely go to the teleprompter dependant one.
The selection of Governor Palin has tightened this race, but we need to get out the vote in the battleground states.
“I say it adds up to an additional 100 million worth of free air, subliminal messages to the electorate, and general cozy pr.”
The reason Campaign Finance Reform doesn’t work. The Dems get free news time.
Obama is a front man. I do not know the power behind him for sure; but whoever it is ... Obama is simply the puppet candidate for that power. Not to unlike Putin being the power in Russia, no matter who the man is that was elected President of Russia.
Scary, huh?
McCain, Palin are the candidates that I pray will win; and have contributed several times to this happening.
They are going to win. Otherwise ... those of us who thought the Clinton's were awful and not to be topped in their underhanded dealings will see an immense increase in unethical, totalitarianism coming out of Washington.
