Or, bypassing the “I gotta have it” and “Apple is so cool!” mentalities, buy one of SanDisk’s Sansa music players for a lot less money — they play MP3 and WMA files, with no subscriptions and no special software needed (just drag and drop).

I happen to loooove my iphone and there is no mp3 player that compares to its usefulness.

My first mp3 player cost me 20 bucks (or less). It had no memory except for a slot for an SD card. I had an old one from my camera that I wasn't using. Problem solved. Plus there's a slot on the PC that the SD card slips right into so I could read and write without a problem. Ran one a single AA battery.
Haven't used it since I got the shuffle for Christmas a couple years ago.
