MLB: Two weeks left, push to the playoffs

Let's hear a little baseball chatter here! AL EAST Tampa Bay leads division by a game over Boston with the two teams squaring off in a three game series starting tonight. Yankees are in fourth, a half game behind the Blue Jays--and the last game at Yankee Stadium is set for Sunday night on ESPN. AL CENTRAL/WEST White Sox lead Twins by 1.5 games. Angels clinched the west and lead Texas by a mere 19.5 games.

Curse of Hillary? The Obama campaign reminds me of the Yanks' fortune this year. Down down down

Another close race in the NL EAST where Mets lead Philly by 1 game. In the CENTRAL the Cubs lead Milwaukee by 7.5 games and have a magic number of 7. How about the Commish shifting the Cubs-Astros series to Milwaukee? They were debating that on ESPN... $$ from games being held in the commish's hometown, with many Cubs fans nearby...and games of interest to Brewers fans too, as they fight for wildcard.

In the NL WEST, some guy from Boston (who played for Cleveland before that) has Dodger fans wearing dreadlock wigs and the Dodgers are up by 4.5 games over Ariz. (magic number 10). They'll prob have to win the division outright to get into playoffs-- Milw. leading wildcard so wildcard may well come from Central.

It’s been a tough season for the Braves.

Carlos Zambrano's no-hitter yesterday in Milwaukee was reported as the first ever no-hitter pitched at a neutral location.

Like how many games in MLB history have been played at neutral locations?

I know. :( I am a Braves fan too. There have been so many injuries. I am hoping they rebound next season.

A little over a week to go and here’s where we stand:

AL EAST
Tampa Bay leads Boston by 1.5 games and has a magic number of 9. Should the teams finish the season tied, the Rays get the division based on head to head record. Last year at this
time, Boston had an identical record (90-63) but was leading the division.

AL CENTRAL
Chicago leads Minn by 2.5 games; magic number is 7
AL WEST
Angels clinched awhile back

WILDCARD:
Boston leads wildcard with a “magic number” of 2 to get a playoff spot. Minn and Yankees 7.5 back

I believe Angels (best record among div leaders) gets wildcard so if season ended today, Boston v. L.A.,
Chicago v. Tampa Bay

NL EAST
Mets regain lead, by a slim half game over Philly.
Magic number 9

NL CENTRAL
Cubs lead Milw. by 9 games; magic number is 1. They last
won World Series exactly 100 years ago

NL WEST
Dodgers lead Ariz by 3.5 games; magic number is 6

WILDCARD:
Phillies currently lead, with magic number of 7 but they are only 1/2 game back of Mets so that could change.
Brewers 2 games in back of “Wild Card Standings”
and Fla. and Houston are 4.5 games back.

Yankee stadium hosts its final game tomorrow night/ESPN
Let’s talk baseball playoffs!

Oh, I think Cubs have best record among div leaders
so they would play wildcard. Currently that would mean
Chi. by Philly while Mets would get Dodgers

—Instant replay overturned a call for first time ever
last night. I believe it was a Tampa Bay game where a double wound up being ruled a HR instead (hit catwalk?)

—In playoffs, the wild card team never gets the home
advantage. Div leader with best record gets to play the
wildcard. Teams from same division can never play in first round (example: you would not see Tampa Bay v. Boston)
but it could happen in Championship Series.
AL again won All Star Game so again AL has World
Series advantage.

Cubs are about to clinch division I believe. I had it on for a few minutes on XM.

Right now 2 out in top 9th, Cubs up 5-4

Red Sox lose, TB winning I think

Tampa Bay up 6-0 in 6th. I think they can clinch playoff birth with win

Game Channel: game over. Cubs win! Cubs win! (PH Miles
flied out to center) Cubs are now 93-60 I believe...
Milw. losing 4-2...

One week to go.

AL EAST: Rays clinched playoff spot yesterday. Red Sox can
do the same with victory (currently leading Blue Jays 3-0
in 7th) and a Yankee loss, I believe. TB magic number 7
for winning div. White Sox magic number for winning Central
is 6. Angels clinched West.

NL EAST: Phillies lead Mets by a half game/magic number 8
but we’ll see who leads div. after today. Mets lead Atl.
4-2 in the 4th. Phillies play Florida at 4:10 pm

In Central Cubs win! the division. Dodgers lead west by
3.5 games and have magic number of 5. Dodgers play
Giants at 4 ET/1PT. Arizona plays Colo. starting right about now.

Buh bye to Yankee Stadium after tonight. Coverage on ESPN
