I am just more and more fascinated by the Meltdown on Wall Street this week, particularly the behind-the-scenes goings-on and attitudes of the players:
- When Bear Stearns was baliled out, Wall St. saw it as a signal that the Gov't. was going to cave completely.
- On Friday, when Fannie and Freddie were bailed out (nationalized), it looked like Wall St. thought there was going to be this 100-car Gravy train pulling into Grand Central.
- But when they got together Sunday with Treasury and the Fed, Paulson basically said, look, you have to pony up if you want more help from us. He told them a) one of you guys buy what's good about Lehman, and b) split up the rest of the Lehman junk and collectively absorb the loss.
- And it looked like they were going to do it, until the top jerk at Lehman wanted assurances that all of Lehman management stays in place, so Wall St. balked. Lehman files bankruptcy.
- It was pre-ordained, though, because even in bankruptcy the top jerk at Lehman is still worth $32 million at least (but over $500 million before).
So it looks like personalities got in the way of Lehman's survival, employees and stockholders be damned! ;-))
Another note: Remember Elliot Spitzer and AIG??? Wasn't Hank Greenberg the head of AIG and didn't Eliot Spitzer force him to resign as head of AIG in return for no prosecution?
Turns out that Greenberg didn't exactly go away -- he now heads the company that is the single largest shareholder of AIG. Greenberg is under indictment for some kind of securities fraud/ethics case which he is fighting, too. So was Spitzer right in going after Greenberg, given the situation AIG ended up in???
I'm so confused!!! But fascinated...;-))

Listening to KGO and heard "Sarah Palin's favoribility rates have dropped 16 points in two days".
What is going on? I am assuming this is a poll taken by liberals who are talking to only liberals.
