A 5-month-old boy was killed in Harvey Thursday when his baby sitter allegedly put him in her clothes dryer because she had become frustrated with him, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.
The baby sitter, Ariel Smith, 19, was booked with first-degree murder.
Smith, of 512 MacArthur Drive in Harvey, called 911 shortly before 11:15 a.m. and reported a baby at that location who was not breathing, said JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato.
First responders found the child, Andre Jenkins, lying on the floor unresponsive at that address, the JPSO spokesman said. The child was pronounced dead on the scene.
JPSO investigators learned the infant was dropped off along with his 18-month-old brother at Smith's home Thursday morning by his mother, identified as Brandy Dozier, Fortunato said.
Smith first told investigators that burns on the child's body were received when his brother pushed a pot of boiling water from her stove onto the child, he said.
Under questioning by homicide detective Keith Locascio, Smith later admitted the infant sustained the burns when she placed him into the clothes dryer, turned it on and left the room, Fortunato said.
"She stated she was frustrated with the child, " Fortunato said.
When she returned, the child wasn't breathing, she told investigators, Fortunato said.

Maybe she will commit "suicide" while in custody.
Fat chance of that. These baby-killing Moms are always treated with kid gloves.
Man, too bad that hurricane can’t be steered back over to NOLA, that toilet needs flushing again.
Wanted the money but didn’t want to deal with the baby being upset to make the money. God forgive her. I can’t. Putting a baby in a dryer is BLATANT,EVIL, PREMEDITATED AND UNCONCINABLE. She deserves what she gets. I know the baby is in heaven in the arms of the Lord with all the other babies who have been murdered. Rest in peace little one...you’ll never have to know anything ever again but peace, calm and love.
As for the perp....oh boy....I could care less.
There are good people everywhere and there are bad among them. I do not condemn a whole community for the evil act of one person.
I wonder, is the world more evil now or does it just appear so because of all the access we have to everything that happens everywhere via tv, radio, newspapers, internet ect..?
I wonder that too. However, I think people get away with more things today. THAT’S the problem.
You didn’t read the article. The baby-sitter killed the baby, not the mother.
One more reason I refuse to put my children in the care of people outside the family.
I am blessed to be able to give the day care money to grandma instead.
Grandma might spoil them, but she’ll never do anything like that.
No, the amount of evil is the same. But don’t ever think we have access to everything. Our magic communication systems still only lightly skim the surface of reality.
I wish these type of articles would not be posted, it is so traumatizing to read this stuff. My heart is absolutely breaking!
Yea, I know...I had the Andrea Yates fiasco in my head and just didn’t realize what I had typed.
In any case, my point still stands, if your a woman, the penalty will be far less harsh.
Lady, the clothes are WASH and Wear not the BABY!! Lets put this MORON into a dryer... to execute her!
