Presidential Quotes Re: God (vanity)

I keep hearing the lefty commies cringe at any mention of God, as if Palin is a wacko. Who can help direct me to a list of quotes from past Presidents or other historical figures, esp. dems, who have mentioned God, faith and such? Maybe there is a list here already. Thanks

TOPICS: Reference; Religion
KEYWORDS: god; presidents

Newt on Hannity-Colmes gave a great response: JFK was explicit, FDR, Ike. Raked TV news industry over their ignorance

Quote for the week at the

PresidentialPrayerTeam.org

PRESIDENTIAL QUOTE
FOR THE WEEK

Portrait courtesy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Avoid all disrespect to or contempt of the religion of the country and its ceremonies. Prudence, policy, and a true Christian spirit will lead us to look with compassion upon their errors without insulting them. While we are contending for our own liberty, we should be very cautious of violating the rights of conscience in others, ever considering that God alone is the judge of the hearts of men, and to him only in this case they are answerable.
—George Washington, General Orders, September 14, 1775

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich shouldn't be writing anything with God in the title but "God forgive me".

Yale University has a historical law library that has all the founding documents, and many speeches, state documents forward..there are so many references to God in all those documents. There was a special project, so look for it...I referenced it several years ago online, so it should still be available.

Thanks. I think the best response would be to use quotes from the contemporary heroes of democrats, like JFK, FDR. I certainly appreciate the founding father's views, but to really strike at the heart of the "God" attacks on Palin, it would be best to use more contemporary figures.

Stuff like this is all I have...for now.

Did you check it out? It comes forward, and something should be in their archives from recent Presidents. Best of luck with that.

Briefly, might be a long project going that route. I’d just like to find quotes and use them the way the left tried to use lipstick on a pig against McCain. This endeavor would be much more productive than theirs I suspect.

Google various Presidents, Senators, Governors, VP’s and others speeches online, and you should be able to find a copy...and google content or use of “God”. Type in any reference you can think of with the name of individual and that should net some info from speeches, etc.

I know this isn’t what you asked for but these quotes sum up my feelings lately :

“It is a free press...There are laws to protect the freedom of the press’s speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press.”- License of the Press speech , via Directory of Mark Twain’s maxims, quotations, and various opinions

“..the liberty of the Press is called the Palladium of Freedom, which means, in these days, the liberty of being deceived, swindled, and humbugged by the Press and paying hugely for the deception. “ - “From Author’s Sketch Book, Nov. 1870,” reprinted in The Twainian, May 1940, via Directory of Mark Twain’s maxims, quotations, and various opinions

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

Here is one I found today:

President Franklin Roosevelt, who prayed on D-Day that, “by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.”
