Newt on Hannity-Colmes gave a great response: JFK was explicit, FDR, Ike. Raked TV news industry over their ignorance
Newt has a book out on this he mentioned it but i forgot title. It does have “God” in title IIRC

Avoid all disrespect to or contempt of the religion of the country and its ceremonies. Prudence, policy, and a true Christian spirit will lead us to look with compassion upon their errors without insulting them. While we are contending for our own liberty, we should be very cautious of violating the rights of conscience in others, ever considering that God alone is the judge of the hearts of men, and to him only in this case they are answerable.
George Washington, General Orders, September 14, 1775

Yale University has a historical law library that has all the founding documents, and many speeches, state documents forward..there are so many references to God in all those documents. There was a special project, so look for it...I referenced it several years ago online, so it should still be available.

I know this isn’t what you asked for but these quotes sum up my feelings lately :
“It is a free press...There are laws to protect the freedom of the press’s speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press.”- License of the Press speech , via Directory of Mark Twain’s maxims, quotations, and various opinions
“..the liberty of the Press is called the Palladium of Freedom, which means, in these days, the liberty of being deceived, swindled, and humbugged by the Press and paying hugely for the deception. “ - “From Author’s Sketch Book, Nov. 1870,” reprinted in The Twainian, May 1940, via Directory of Mark Twain’s maxims, quotations, and various opinions
“God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”
-———Thomas Jefferson
