Star Wars: Robert De Niro vs. Mel Gibson
Everyone in the movie business is buzzing about Robert De Niro walking off the set of "Edge of Darkness.
De Niro was back in New York Wednesday night for the premiere of Righteous Kill with Al Pacino. But he left Edge of Darkness abruptly last week after shooting one scene. His co-star was supposed to be Mel Gibson. It was that actors return to the screen after his poisonous 2006 arrest in Malibu that included an anti-Semitic and racist tirade.
Since then, Gibson whod already raised questions about his possible problems with Jews from his Passion of the Christ has been considered persona non grata in Hollywood.
Hes also had problems because his father, Hutton Gibson, is a public Holocaust denier who often writes for questionable publications.
There were questions raised in the British press this week about whether or not De Niro might have left Edge of Darkness over the anti-Semitic comments Gibson made to a Jewish police officer in that Malibu arrest. Perhaps, the papers thought, De Niro had Jewish ancestors.
But Gibson also addressed a female officer, who is black, as sugar t--s. This might not have gone over well with De Niro, whose lovely wife Grace happens to be African-American. De Niro is also a vociferous backer of Barack Obama for president.

How about the anti-Christian tirades that come from Hollywood, oh wait - those are called scripts.
Hat tip to www.dirtyharrysplace.com for the article.
LOVE Mel Gibson and his spectacular movies. Thanks Mel for all your work...I hope we see more.
De Niro is a highly overrated hack as an actor. The set is better off without him.
Mel did go into rehab & apologize so why should he have to disappear when other Hollywood types can spew anti-Christian venom while sober!
But Gibson also addressed a female officer, who is black, as sugar t—s............................
sugar tits???????????????????????????
How is this racist????????
and Roger FRIEDMAN is impartial I reckon.
Grill Gibson for his drunk tirade.
he’s not repsonsible for a kooky dad
and his Passion was right on.
if you don’t like the scripture then find something else to do.
this Hollywood attack on the Passion was never anything but an attack on Christianity that dare say it’s name
See, I’m just not that bright...I couldn’t understand what the t__s was.
I was trying to figure out racial epitaphs that started with t and end with s.
That is a sexist remark, but not racist.
If he said a Nappy Sugar t__s, then I could see that as racist.
I’m no Mel Gibson fan, but if DeNiro had a problem with him, maybe he shouldn’t have signed up to be in a movie with him in the first place.
What a stupid story. Robert knew who was cast and who he’d be doing his scenes with. He didn’t walk off the stage because of Mel. Whatever the reason, he’ll be back. The contract he signed will make sure of that.
This article makes no sense. DeNiro signed onto this role no more than two or three months ago. Gibson’s disgusting behavior was years ago. DeNiro suddenly realized he was bothered?
I was about to say the same thing. You don’t suddenly start shooting a movie...and then suddenly find out who your co-stars are. If De Niro believes Gibson is repugnant, he would never have signed on to the movie to BEGIN with, especially because Gibson’s actions in question go back a few years. The implied scenario here makes no sense.
I hope this project tanks - it’s being remade too soon, when the original was perfect. I hate lazy filmmakers doing remakes of comparatively recent shows, instead of trying new scripts, fresh ideas.
Mel may have signed on after DeNiro was cast but Robert’s too professional to walk off a set because he doesn’t like or agree with a fellow actor.
I agree. FReepers who say Hollywierd types should stay out of politics give Mel a pass because he made a movie they could agree with. Mel is as crazy as the rest of them.
Sexist was the term I used in conversation with my wife about this article.
Epitaph? You make dumb like us look!
De Niro is legendary. You're smoking crack.
LOL He's played basically the same role for thirty years. He's a hack.
