I have several of the fine offerings of Mossberg; two 500A’s and one 590, specifically for those potential nocturnal “Repel Boarders” moments.

The 590 is the standard military version, but with a side saddle added on that holds a quick extra 6 rounds. That’s in the bedroom at night (chambered - no racking needed), backed up by a Glock 21 with a Surefire on it in the headboard.

The Mossberg people have now added a couple of new versions to their line, their JIC [Just In Case] series, which comes with a waterproof storage case very suitable for boating [ "Mariner" bright orange!]or rural storage ["Cruiser" olive drab or "Sandstorm" desert sand camo] uses.

I'm less than thrilled with the use of the *cruiser* pistol grip, though it does keep overall length down and can easily have a synthetic full-stock butt added, bagged and taped to the outside of the container, with a suitable screwdriver added to the contents of the survival kit gizmos Mouseburger includes with the JIC combo.

But in all, it's a pretty good idea, and since there's already a 18-inch barrelled Mossberg 590 in the family, one of the JIC packages might not be all that bad anm addition.

I have one of the first generation Crusiers with the full length magazine tube.

I only play with it with bird shot, but keep it loaded 00. I do note that in a high adrenalin situation, I might never know that my left hand was being torn apart by the pistol grip until well after the fact.

It is the same as when shooting that big buck you've been after for a while...you never feel the recoil or note the noise of the firing.

It is the same when I fire my pistol or rifle at a nice feral hog. There is no recoil and my hearing is closed off to the blast. The muzzle flash of the full house 44 reloads paints me a picture of the target for a follow up shot(s).

Adrenalin will be your friend.

Hey archy...good to “see” you...

I like the “JIC” idea. Evidently, the Mossbergs understand the “Rainy Decade” train of thought...

I’ve fired pistol-stocked shotguns (no shoulder stock) and found the experience, well, decidely NOT pleasent. I’d rather add a folder to it, which still keeps the length down and would still allow it to ride in the case.

Though about getting a Benelli M2 semiauto as well, but finances are tight at the mo, so it’ll have to wait.

At the end of the day though, either with or without the stock, pump, bolt, or semiauto, the 12gauge is still one hell of a boomstick, and I’ll ALWAYS have a couple on hand.

Always. By any means necessary.
