In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
kvell \KVEL\ verb
to be extraordinarily proud; rejoice
Example sentence:
Critics kvelled over the violinist's triumphant return to the stage where she had made her debut many years ago.
Did you know?
We are pleased to inform you that the word "kvell" is derived from Yiddish "kveln," meaning "to be delighted," which, in turn, comes from the Middle High German word "quellen," meaning "to well, gush, or swell." Yiddish has been a wellspring of creativity for English, giving us such delightful words as "meister" ("one who is knowledgeable about something"), "maven" ("expert"), and "shtick" ("one's special activity"), just to name a few. The date for the appearance of "kvell" in the English language is tricky to pinpoint exactly. The earliest known printed evidence for the word in an English source is found in a 1952 handbook of Jewish words and expressions, but actual usage evidence before that date remains unseen.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

the volvo is ok, so long as you don’t have a SHARE THE ROAD bumpersticker on the back of it. and it is all for the best that your son gave up the ghey soccer thing! ROR!
xshub just reported in. he said there was about 20k people there, which is MASSIVE for NoVA. Palin was the buzz in the long line snaking to get into the park. Girls wearing Reston Raiders hockey shirts/jackets, hockey moms with signs. He got us a yard sign. he couldn’t find me a hockey mom tshirt, he tried. He said Fred was good. Tom Davis the RINO was the warm up act. I guess the Fairfax City mayor must be republican, bc he also got to speak. lots of kids were there too.
a hockey mom for Sarah shirt with a big ol’ lipstick kiss on it........LOL ....perfect!
Rush....”blue states and lipstick red states....” LOL
I wish you could’ve been there too! I’m still waiting for my stickers. They didn’t have any stuff at the Music Row event Monday night. But more are scheduled so hopefully they’ll make the most of the opportunity to move stuff.
it’ll be two weeks since I ordered MY sign........I am sure they were unnundated with requests....
he said it was hard to see, but fred thompson at 6’5” stood out easily. Todd was there with sarah, he said cindy looked nice in a green outfit. he said even the old guy was good, suprisingly enough.
Is there a color that doesn’t look good on Cindy? Everything I’ve seen her wear looks great.
Volvos are boxy, but good.
I think they were the last make of vehicle to get cupholders too so they don’t exactly jump on the bandwagon for anything.
after hearing her bio at the RNC convention, i feel bad for having pretty much dismissed her as a piece of fluff for many years. i had no idea she had so much substance to her.
i am sold on the niponese product, toyota. they have never been a problem for us, in any way. Don Beyer, former lt. dem governor of VA, who has the volvo dealership in the earthwatcher capital of Falls Church VA, has pretty much sealed the deal that we would never own a volvo. they are forever associated as a leftwing vehicle, much like the suburu forester, which is a gaymobile.
I had received emails about her during the primaries and was wowed by her humanitarian efforts. She didn’t have to work a single day of her life but went to college, got her master’s in special ed and uses her talents for the greater good without any spotlights or press following. I think she’s wonderful.
Remember the movie “Crazy People” with Dudley Moore? That was his “crazy” ad campaign for Volvos. They’re boxy, but good.
i think she’s vastly underrated and will hopefully get a chance to get her due, as first lady. i heard her with laura bush on fox before either of their speeches at the convention, might have been with megyn kelly and they both admit to being nervous in speaking to crowds, and cindy said what an inspiration laura had been to her.
harrumph, so you ask SG about it assuming she has seen it, and not me.....
That was before kids, huh? Can you name the co-star or any of the other ad campaigns?
no. i didn’t see it, i was just noting that you asked her and not me... ; )
And you call me ANNOYING? ;-)
