Please forgive my ignorance, but from whence comes "A moose once bit my sister"?

I have seen it in other forums and it seems to carry an implied sort of 'insider humor'. One can almost feel the wink of an eye that goes with it. I had never heard it until I came here, so I thought it was an FR buzzphrase. Lately I see it in various places.

I am not so much interested in knowing the specific circumstances of its origin. My primary question is : if I see "A moose once bit my sister" on another web forum is it safe to assume that the poster is a FReeper?

TIA

So, I guess it would be a reach to say if it’s being used on another forum that person is a FReeper.

*ahem*

I will attempt to not bust a gut laughing as I explain this. The “A Moose once bit my sister” and “Now mind you, moose bites can be pretty nasty” came from a very little known movie in the early 1970s called “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.

I say little known, that is unless you are a man who ever went to college after 1975, dated a man who went to college after 1975, are a child of a man who went to college after 1975, or you are a Luddite, an Amish, a Paulbot, or just, well, a wanker.

*****************

I apologize, the ASB who wrote the above has been canned. A new ASB has been brought in at great expense to finish the explanation.

*****************

... and that is how Harvey the wonder Llama ended up directing the film.

I have often wonder what the circumstance of the alleged incident in which this moose bite occurred. Was it an unproved attack or did this sister provoke the alleged attack. Further study reviled this tidbit from a moose website. Quote:

Although moose lack teeth in the front of the upper jaw, they have little trouble dealing with the woody plant material that constitutes much of their diet. They feed on fresh leaves by browsing and may even pull a shoot sideways through their mouth, frequently stripping off up to two feet (one-half metre) of vegetation with the aid of the tough, thick tongue and lips.

But as for me My sister gave me a Moose for my birthday.
