I find it interesting that every time one of these semiconductors are fired up, there's a segment of society believing the world will end if they are allowed to follow through. Living in New Mexico I am well aware of the doomsday thoughts rampant when the first a-bomb was detonated at White Sands. As to the current startup of the CERN, my lights flickered the other evening. Does that count?

Not really, because that was probably caused by all those UFOs in Roswell. I understand that the government is dismantling them for spare parts on their new special fighter jets.
How else can we out maneuver the bad guys?.
