I agree the “above my pay grade” was the start of the turn. But it would have been recoverable except for the absolutely brilliant follow-ups by the McCain Camp. Choosing Palin pulled the base in and we were not in before that. What is finishing off Nobama is the lipstick smear. You should never beat up on a woman.

I think you are right about the McCain Campaign and their quick responses. It has always unnerved me that the Bushes ever seem to be ‘above’ campaigning or even fighting back (W to this day won’t hit back on much of anything, especially with good news from Iraq). McCain seems willing to put regular smackdowns on a candidate not used to having to defend himself...;-))
