OK - ever so often I see a thread or a comment about FreeRepublic being very slow, that the server is responding slowly, or that there are problems with posting.
I too have noticed major slowdowns and lately have seen more and more "server not responding" errors.
What is odd - a ping of 209.157.64.201 (the IP address of FR) comes back just fine and quite speedy. Yet the errors and slow response when opening threads and posting are getting worse.
Have I missed something? I have actually spent more time here on FR in the last few weeks than usual, so I am getting more sensitive to such issues.
What gives?
Place is swamped with spam posts of the same BS over and over.

I’ve been getting these problems for about a month. They seem to come and go.
Jim has ordered a couple of new servers to try and help the problem.
IMO, there has been a lot more activity on this forum combined with outside interference.
I know there was a hard crash not long ago.
Works fine here in Ohio.

Frustrating enough to stop coming to the site (if it keeps up anyway).

I don’t know the answers to your questions but there was a few hours outage a couple or so weeks ago. I’m not sure everything is totally back to normal since then. I think the search function is still acting screwy as an example.
All said it’s still better than not having FR around.
I don’t know the answer to your question, but may I ask a question of my own which is also of interest to all on FR?
When FR is down, we used to have another spot on Yahoo to converse about the outage. That way, we knew whether it was our own computers, or FR that was having a problem. I lost the address for that site. Does anyone know it?

The looks like a list of the same problems I am having. In fact, I had to hit “reload” 6 times to get this posting comment page to come up. It would just load up a blank page over and over.
And to whoever said that we had to be sure we are properly logged in - Ummm... ok. Have to be logged in to post. Have even tried logging out and back in... No change in behavior.
Must be because there sure has been a rash of multiple postings of the same articles - sometimes minutes apart, sometimes hours or days... often 3, 4, or more repeats of the exact same article from the same source...

Even went to a different computer just incase it was my lap top acting up.
Very frustrating to be sure.
Yep, and tons of goofy vanities in the News section.
