This is an email I received from a good friend in New York City. She is a Bryn Mawr graduate, and is a physician currently engaged in cancer research at Columbia University. This is an email she received from a Bryn Mawr classmate of hers who lives in Alaska.
Because you, like me, may never have heard of Sarah Palin until today, you may find this an interesting perspective from an Alaskan resident.

Dear classmates -
As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that he picked her.
The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles. She is a life time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska, particularly wolves and bears. She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska's failing school system. We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the country.
Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so bad, but how anyone (other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is appropriate is beyond me.
If you want to know more about the aerial hunting travesty, let me know and I will send some links to informative web sites.
She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels, yet the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has "green" policies. The only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience.
She has consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her home town of Wasilla), strip mining, and almost anything else that will unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy its environment.
Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla, a small red neck town outside Anchorage.
The average maximum education level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade.
Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put Palin in office in the first place.
I know what I'm talking about.
These people don't have a concept of the world around them or of the serious issues facing the US. Furthermore, they don't care. So long as they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the wilderness, they're happy. I wish I were exaggerating.
Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruption scandal.
She fired an individual in law enforcement here because she didn't like how he treated one of her relatives during a divorce. The man's performance and ability weren't considered; it was a totally personal firing and is currently under investigation.
While the issue isn't close to the scandal of Ted Steven's corruption, it shows that Palin isn't "squeaky clean" and causes me to think there may be more issues that could come to light. Clearly McCain doesn't care.
When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable if it weren't so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics (admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs, knows nothing of national government, Social Security, unemployment, health care systems - you name it.
The idea of her meeting with heads of foreign governments around the world truly frightens me.
In an increasingly dangerous world, with the economy in shambles in the US, Sarah Palin is uniquely UNqualified to be vice president.
John McCain is not a young man. Should something happen to him such that the vice president had to step in, it would destroy our country and possibly the world to have someone as inexperienced and inappropriate as Sarah Palin.
The choice of Palin is a cheap shot by McCain to try to get Hillary supporters to vote for him.
when McCain introduced her today, Palin had the nerve to compare herself with Hillary and Geraldine Ferraro.
Sarah Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton.
To those of you who, like me, supported Hillary and were upset that she did not get the nomination, please don't think that Sarah Palin is a worthy substitute.
If you supported Hillary, regardless of what you think the media and the Democratic party may have done to undermine her campaign, the person to support now is Obama, not Sarah Palin.
To those of you who are independent or undecided, don't let the choice of Palin sway you in favor of McCain. Choosing her shows how unqualified McCain is to be president.
To those of you who are conservative, I guess you have no choice for president. But please try to see how the poor choice of Palin tells us a great deal about McCain's judgment.
While the political posturing inherent in the choice of Palin is obvious, the more serious issue is the fact that the VP is, literally, a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin is totally and unequivocally unqualified to be vice president, let alone president.
I know this is a lengthy and emotional email, but the stakes are high. I thought it might help for all of you, regardless of political affiliation, to know something about Palin from someone who has to live with her administration in Alaska on a daily basis.

YOUR friend is this doctor?
Oh brother. Does this person know how large Alaska really is?
Alaska is more than twice the size of the largest of the lower 48 states, and the amount of Alaska underlain by permafrost is equal to the size of three Californias. Ten states are smaller than the area covered by glaciers in Alaska. If glaciers of the adjacent Yukon Territory and British Columbia that connect to Alaska's ice fields (often referred to as the Alaska-Yukon glaciers) are added, thirteen states are smaller than the area covered by glaciers.

Diminishing resources my arse.
Dear Jackie S.,
F.U.
Sincerely
Mr. Redneck
Also, what is all this crap about being a Bryn Mawr graduate. Are all Bryn Mawr graduates very, very truthful? Is it a Theology school? How does being a graduate of this school validate this letter?
Hillary Clinton is a Harvard grad and lies like a rug.
Please, from now on, whenever someone talks to me, I want you all to address me as a “Louisianna Tech Graduate”....that MUST weight my opinion. After all, they certainly know political corruption in Louisianna! LOL!
Who has the Palin Derangement Syndrome graphic? It belongs on this thread.

As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I along with countless others up here are happy as a bear at the beginning of spawning season. We're ecstatic that he picked her.
The most accurate description of her is that she's a down to earth “real” person. Her husband works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles. She is a life time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to preserve our natural wildlife here.
For example, when the caribou and even domestic wildlife, like dogs and farm animals were being ravaged by packs of wolfs, she supported a bill that allowed aerial hunting of them. Aerial hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes I know, sounds like an inhumane way to kill predatory animals, but up here it's the most cost effective and safest way, for hunters, to do this. These animals were so over populated they were threatening children and people working up here. I'll be happy to send you some information on this subject.
Before Sarah cameinto office, we had the lowest rate of high school graduation in the country, but she's improved that already. Sarah got the oil companies to kick in more to our state treasury. They didn't like the idea of paying more taxes, but on the other hand, Sarah streamlined the process so that they're now able to access oil and gas fields formerly not available to them. The increased revenues for the state are being used to improve our schools. And by the way, she even gave each of us $1800 when her budget was in the black at the end of the year.
In a time when our nation needs to reduce its dependence on foreign oil, she not only talks, but she takes action. She has been a strong supporter of increased drilling for oil and natural gas, but she's a strong advocate for other forms of renewable sources to. She's for wind, solar and geothermal. She's also for building more nuclear plants. She's shown that you can do this and still be environmentally sound. Do the people in the lower 48 think we'd let someone run this state who was not a good custodian of our land and waters?
Dear Fellow Freepers, I can post the rest of the letter if you'd like me too, but I think you get my drift.
Probably an al Qaeda agent provocateur or a member of the legendary Taliban Fifth Column. Probably knows the late-and-lamented Adam Gadahn personally.
And who could blame her? If I were an American traitor like Gadahn I'd be scared shirtless of Sarah Palin, too.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Expect to see more of the same over the next few weeks as the Liberals and other terrorist sympathizers get their nickers into ever-more-twisted twists.
This should be fun to watch!
Would someone who is actually living in Alaska describe Wasilla, which is about 40 miles NE of Anchorage, as "outside of Anchorage"?
Also, how difficult would it be to locate a woman named Jackie with a last name beginning with S, who lives within driving distance of Wasilla but not closer than that to any other city or town with a grocery and other stores?
If this Jackie S really exists?
LOL!! These are getting more ridiculously preposterous by the minute! Somebody has got to keep a running tab on these deviotic, absurd attempts by librals to trash Sarah!
I'll take a redneck any day over an elitist prick!
Sounds like one of those “composite characters” that media people like to create.
A clever tactic that will probably work on a lot a people, unfortunately.
That Elaine....so good of her to write! I noticed the Alaskan accent, right away. They have a certain way of phrasing things, don’t they? LOL!
Dear Nikos,
Thanks for forwarding the email from Jackie S, the doctor who says she lives here. What she says sucks wet dog fur.
She must be one of those doctors whose medical education was paid for by the state of Alaska, inturn for her agreeing to work in some of the more remote areas for a year or more. There are quite a few doctors up here, and they’re all mostly here because they want to be, and they love it. A few others, like Jackie, can’t wait until till their contracts are up so they can move back to New York or San Francisco.
Taks care, and be sure to come see me.
Love and kisses,
Elaine
RED nech town?????
My gues is the author of this poison pen piece was the New Yorker herself. It DRIPS with eastern liberal elitism.
I'll bet that's about 4 grade levels above any inner-city area in the Lower 48.
Don’t think I’ve ever done this but is this what they call “freeping” a poll? Here’s one you all might like:
http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-mccainveep2-poll,0,7720917.poll
Oh yea, and for a Redneck, she sure understands how politics work and ESPECIALLY how the media works.
She’s seems to be much more up to speed in this area than about 90% of today’s Republicans.
Not bad for a small-town hick. (ha ha)
PS-BTW, Nikos, I wouldn’t call Sarah a Redneck, although I agree she’s pretty tough. She drives herself to work in a Zamboni.
Okluvubye,
Elaine
