A 28-year-old Loudon County man walking on train tracks listening to music with headphones apparently didn't hear the train that came up from behind and killed him, police said Friday. Darwin award nominee.

Force equals mass times acceleration. It’s not just a good idea. It’s the law.

I saw a sign at a crossing once that said, “if its a tie you lose”.
Sorry the fellow was killed but if you walk on railway tracks you need to understand thats where the trains are.

Police say he was listening to music, didn’t hear horn
****
No kidding. Even insects know the danger in this situation. The title is as redundant as “man goes into water, man gets wet.”

I wonder what song was playing when he got hit?

I remember, as a kid, that you could actually feel a train coming from the vibration of the tracks, well before it was in sight or even audible. This guy had more problems than just not being able to hear over his earphones, imho.

I don’t believe it.
The guy is dead. So their discussion of him using a “shortcut” and “not hearing the train” is speculation.
If the tracks are really a shortcut, it wouldn’t be in between the rails (where there are ties that are easy to trip over — there would be a worn path next to the track.
It is much more likely that the guy decided to kill himself, and chose a train. He couldn’t watch the train because he’d freak out, so he put on headphones and walked away from the train.
If he turned up a pair of ipod headphones loud enough that he couldn’t hear a train whistle 50 feet behind him, he’d have blown his eardrums.

Have a friend who is an engineer for CSX. He says this is the kind of stuff that gives train crews nightmares...
