Then there’s the other side of this. A story about my brother’s German shepherd.
She was diagnosed with Lyme’s disease and needed to take two little presciption pills daily for a length of time. Mix the pills in her food and that’ll be good. One day, my brother told some friends and me to “watch this.” He mixes a big pan of dog food and water, dropped in the two pills and mixed them in, and gave it to Duchess. We all watched as she cleaned up that whole pan. When she was done and walked away, those two little pills were sitting in the bottom of the pan. Big ol’ pile of food and she manages to selectively avoid the pills.
So he takes each of those pills, wraps a ittle bread around them, and tosses the “treats” at her to catch and wolf down.
One of our dogs would do the same thing, the other woofs his food down and wouldn’t notice a pill. When we have to give our dogs pills we buy Cheez Whiz. Easier than using peanut butter, you just squirt the pill with the cheese. I noticed our vet has some new treats with a small pocket in them that that allow you to slip a pill inside.
Amazing isn’t it? Our Labs, when fed vegetables mixed with their chow, would leave any pea in the bottom of the bowl. They way they can gobble, you’d think the tiny round object’s texture [pill/pea] wouldn’t matter. LOL
