I know I'll be loathed for saying this, but what exactly is the difference between THEIR celeb-worship and OUR celeb-worship?

We mocked them for fainting at Obama rallies and we mocked their adoration of him, calling him The Messiah.

I love Palin's politics, but aren't we getting into the "Everything our candidate does is perfect and without flaw" thing?

And it's not necessary. Whatever happened to not caring about all that People magazine stuff, and supporting candidates because they have the right positions on issues (which she does)?

I get the huge support for this terrific candidate, but I don't get the mythmaking of someone 99% of us never knew anything about a little over a week ago.

Easy! Sarah has experience in the energy industry. We need to be energy independent. She understands that. That's huge! She's a fiscal Conservative. That's huge! She can communicate this, and get it done! That's huge!

No loathing for you, but perhaps an answer to your question..."...what exactly is the difference between THEIR celeb-worship and OUR celeb-worship?"

The left views Senator Obama as "above" them, as someone so flawless and pure that he will solve all their problems.

The right, on the other hand, connects with Governor Palin, not because she is, "above" them, but because she is, "of" them.

Obama's popularity is akin to the that of George Clooney. Palin's is more akin to that of Jimmy Stewart.

I think its because we have needed someone like her for sooooo long. Besides she is a fascinating person. She has a storybook family. Shes like a princess or something. She just inspires love. What woman wouldn’t want to be like her? She inspires us.

It's starting to get to me too. I'm all for being supportive, and I sure hope they kick Obama's butt, but I can only stand so much gush.

Thanks for asking a good question.

It’s the difference between worshiping truth and worshiping falsehood. The difference between the Sarah Phenomenon and Obamamania is that Palin has substance. If you can understand this, you see the difference is total.

Obama is a hit because he looks and sounds good, nothing more.

Sarah Palin has fought corruption against the odds and won. She values principle, and she believes the words coming out of her mouth. She lives her values. Palin represents truth and right.

Obama represents empty promises and lies.

In other words, we revere Sarah’s style because the underlying substance has absolute value.

Obama fanatics worship his superficial qualities in spite of (and mostly because they are unaware of) the fecal matter which lies inside the package.

I understand where you're coming from. You and I would both like this to be an election about issues, rather than personalities, but the fact remains--most elections are decided by people who figure out to vote for the weekend before the election. Since they care so very little about substance, having style is important.

If you can figure out how we can boost the national attention span to longer than a Sesame Street skit, we'd all like to know how to do that! For now, we are in our glories over a person who knows how to connect with a significant segment of the American public that has, until now, been quite dispirited in this election.

I suppose Alan Greenspan might call it "irrational exuberance", but as long as the peak doesn't come for the next 60 days, we'll be alright.

I thought the same thing...

Sarah represents American values

Obama represents nebulous global values

That’s simplistic, I know

I wonder if anyone has the talent to work up a socialist-style Obama-like poster of Palin. That would be interesting.
