I know I'll be loathed for saying this, but what exactly is the difference between THEIR celeb-worship and OUR celeb-worship?
We mocked them for fainting at Obama rallies and we mocked their adoration of him, calling him The Messiah.
I love Palin's politics, but aren't we getting into the "Everything our candidate does is perfect and without flaw" thing?
And it's not necessary. Whatever happened to not caring about all that People magazine stuff, and supporting candidates because they have the right positions on issues (which she does)?
I get the huge support for this terrific candidate, but I don't get the mythmaking of someone 99% of us never knew anything about a little over a week ago.

"I know I'll be loathed for saying this, but what exactly is the difference between THEIR celeb-worship and OUR celeb-worship?" Easy! Sarah has experience in the energy industry. We need to be energy independent. She understands that. That's huge! She's a fiscal Conservative. That's huge! She can communicate this, and get it done! That's huge!

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the celebrity stuff.

I can't forget about Hall and Oates--when I worked in a record store there was a contest going on, and we had to play their live album ALL DAY for A WEEK! I begged and begged for the manager to let me take it off, and twenty minutes after I did, the sales rep for the company came in--if we'd been playing it when he came in we'd have won money.
But it was worth it, not having to listen to that record for those blessed 20 minutes.

No loathing for you, but perhaps an answer to your question...
"...what exactly is the difference between THEIR celeb-worship and OUR celeb-worship?" The left views Senator Obama as "above" them, as someone so flawless and pure that he will solve all their problems.
The right, on the other hand, connects with Governor Palin, not because she is, "above" them, but because she is, "of" them.
Obama's popularity is akin to the that of George Clooney. Palin's is more akin to that of Jimmy Stewart.

Understand your point. I'm not denying Palin is far more worthy than Obama. It's just that after all the months of bashing the Obama worship, to see worship of Palin as a personality and celebrity FOR WHATEVER REASON irks me.
I should mention this isn't a huge thing with me, just a bit of an annoyance. It's not like I don't stop every time I see her on the TV screen... :D

I know where you're coming from, and I also kind of cringe at the Reagan/Thatcher comparisons...She hasn't quite earned those yet, but she certainly has the potential; time will tell.
In any case, I think conservatives have every right to take a great deal of pride in Governor Palin's selection. I certainly feel like our voices have been heard, and our wants have been recognized by McCain and the GOP after being taken for granted for so long. Only time will tell, and she and her family are going to face a slime machine the likes of which have rarely, if ever been seen, so I have no problem with her garnering all the enthusiasm and support she can garner right now.

OK, who's HOTTER, Shania or Sarah? Not fair though, cause Shania's might be 8 or 10 years younger.

I think its because we have needed someone like her for sooooo long. Besides she is a fascinating person. She has a storybook family. Shes like a princess or something. She just inspires love. What woman wouldn’t want to be like her? She inspires us.

I heard a pundit say the other day that what Sarah has can't be learned. Its a talent she was born with.

What woman wouldnt want to be like her? She inspires us.While I appreciate your point, I've just never thought this way about someone. I know it's tough to believe this when you so like someone but...you and I don't KNOW her. We may THINK we do, but we're reacting to what we see on TV, and read. We know aspects of her, but the "love" we have for her isn't like real love between people who actually know each other.
I could never love someone I've never met and only know through the tube, especially someone I've only known about for a week. Love is a lot more valuable to me; I love some of the choices she's made, I admire her, but love? That strikes me as silly when applied to a person I've never met. But that's just me.
