Can someone please start a thread on all the Palin rumors that are coming out. Include any references that show the rumors to be false. It would be great if we could have this all at one spot to work on. Thanks!

There’s a pretty good, concise set of rebuttals at American Thinker:

It’s worth checking out.

What about her supposedly being opposed to abortion even in the cases of rape and incest? Is that an official position?

Yes, she’s opposed to abortion in cases of rape and incest because that’s consistent with the rationale for opposing any abortion (that we’re dealing with innocent human life and killing the innocent child to somehow punish the guilty rapist is absurd).

Here’s item no. 14 in the American Thinker article I linked to in no. 61 above. It begins by stating the position she is (falsely) accused at Daily Kos of advocating. I think this illustrates the utility of the AT compendium of rebuttals:

*****
#14 She stated that she would force her own daughter to have a rapist’s child: This is really stretching it and very low, even for DailyKos and the Democrats. The article eventually linked to, via another DailyKos page, does not say what DailyKos claims Palin said - that she would “force her own daughter to have a rapist’s child”. That is the wishful thinking of the Kossites. In fact, the context of the response makes it clear that she is not answering for her child - she refused to take the interviewer’s bait:

The candidates were pressed on their stances on abortion and were even asked what they would do if their own daughters were raped and became pregnant. Palin said she would support abortion only if the mother’s life was in danger. When it came to her daughter, she said, “I would choose life.”

DailyKos wants you to think that Sarah Palin would lock her baby up in a house and force her to give birth. As Alaska no longer has a parental consent law regarding abortion, there’s no way for Palin to do this - no would she ever have. The most obvious (and correct) interpretation of Sarah Palin’s response is that if she were in that situation she would have the baby, and she would counsel her daughter to do the same. She wasn’t answering for her daughter - she wasn’t going to play that game with the interviewer. Pro-abortion supporters cannot seem to grasp the fact pro-lifers believe that an unborn life is always the ultimate innocent - the child did not have any choice in how it was conceived.

I saw that too. Greta said that everyone they talk to in Alaska thinks she's perfect, and they agreed that Alaska just loves Governor Palin.

The MSM is swarming there now, trying to find any little speck of dirt they can.

Here's something they can sink their fangs into (insert big rolleyes here)— earlier BOR had his body language expert on, and she reviewed Governor Palin’s body language in her speech, and claimed that she is “arrogant”. Later in the speech she describes a smile as “smug”. Hubby and I laughed out loud, and when BOR suggested maybe she was nervous yada, yada, the “expert” said, “No, she is arrogant.” I said “She is an Obama supporter, I bet.” I could smell the stench wafting through my television screen.

Next she “examined” Obama. The clip BOR showed was from his interview with him. Obama is leaning toward him and pointing his finger, emphasizing his point. She says, (almost as if she is talking about a cute puppy) “This is so good, Bill, because he is trying to make a connection with you.... He is asking you to please understand the point he is trying to make.” *GACK*

My husband grabbed the remote from my hand and clicked it off. “I can't listen to this Obama woman.”

Perhaps a “body language expert” should examine this woman, as she talks about Governor Palin and Senator Obama. But I think the little hearts and flowers that dance around her head when she speaks of Obama, should be obvious enough. *grin*

I got an email from the dark side this evening alerting and gloating of Gov. Palin’s lying regarding Special need children and her cutting funding for them in Alaska. I won’t copy the huge sermon but it is false and Gov. Palin in fact increased funding significantly for special need children.

See for truth and summary of the latest smear: http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2008/09/newest_palin_smear_she_cut_spe.asp

Regarding the allegations of book banning, see the following, from a pro-Hillary forum overflowing with p.o.’d PUMAs.

Executive summary: she once asked a hypothetical question regarding book removal. Never pursued banning of anything. Librarian who was fired was among many appointees of the former mayor whom she cleared out in a general house-cleaning.

BTW —- the smear campaign is saying the Gov Palin wanted to ban books — but my girlfriend did all the research and guess what — IT’s NOT TRUE.

HERE’S THE RESEARCH AND e-mail she sent back to her friend.

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/09/03/republican-vp-choice-sarah-palin-tried-ban-books
http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=136

hey, so i researched the link you sent me about banning books. i researched this further since I am skeptic about Time.

Time mag had BO on several covers, more than any other candidate. almost monthly. i subscribed to Time and then cancelled after seeing BO on the cover for the 10th time. and was sick of the biased reporting.

check out the first link: i found the article on gamepolitics that reports the story a whole less explosive. no details on books were ever discussed.

i went on line to the Frontiersman and other local papers in Wasilla and Alaska — no such story is depicted. I researched archives 1995- 1999. nothing in the four local and state papers.

which took me to the local board, city council post their records on their local website.

Apparently there are many inquiries, and you will see the link from the City of Wasilla, who has received several inquiries and the Mayor herself says there was no banning.

If she ever made the comment, she didn’t do anything, didn’t pursue, and not a matter of public record. if she ever made more than one comment, it would have made the papers, an ‘letter to the editor’, something. NOTHING is there.

So i don’t buy much into this story line. these are the stories that I call the “sound bites” that feed fear into people who wont’ do the research.

These people are dangerous! I have read several threats against her today. One in this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6955569&mesg_id=6955569 they said that somebody needs to go to Alaska and whip her and they said Obama better step it up.

I saw that. They are making no bones about it that they are willing to lie to destroy her.

That would be great. Keep them so busy debunking our stories that they don’t have time to make up any rumors of their own.

They had somebody scouring the libraries checking that one out. They must have come up empty because I haven’t heard anymore about it.

It’s the old “throw spaghetti on the wall” trick. Some of the sticky spaghetti might just stick. That’s what they are hoping for.

So much for a different type of politics and changing how business is done in Washington. So much for having respectful debates with political opponents. So much for hoping to find common ground with those opponents.

No but I heard she killed Rudolph. Think about it. I bet its been at least 9 monthes since Rudolph has been seen or heard from. That proves it right there. I’d say in the next 2 or 3 monthes they will come up with a reindeer they will claim is Rudolph but its not. The real Rudolph is dead. That evil right wingnut killed him and Bristol helped her.

What about this business about trying to eradicate every wolf in Alaska? You would not believe how many animal lovers who are getting spooled up over this!

Wow! I’ve seen some sick and twisted stuff on the DU, but that thread tops them all. I hope the Secret Service is taking notes. There are some individuals there that without a doubt are more than capable of trying to take ot Palin or McCain.

“Juneau is a small town; everybody knows everyone else,” he adds. “These stories about what she calls blacks and Eskimos, well, anyone not white and good looking actually, were around long before she became a glint in John McCain’s rheumy eyes. Why do I know they’re true? Because everyone who isn’t aboriginal or Indian in Alaska talks that way”

See, since most of us haven’t been there or at most only vacationed there, some might believe this. I spent four years from Valdez to Prudhoe and nobody I ever talked to spoke that way. This is nothing more than sleazy lies.
