I didn’t get to see the speech due to prior plans for the evening. However, the reaction is obviously here on FR that she hit a home run. On Intrade, there’s been a 6 point swing from Obama to McCain, and Palin’s dropout contract dropped more than half its value. Her impact in the last few days has been measurable in terms of money going into GOP coffers (more than $10M), 6 points on Intrade, more press coverage than anyone can keep up with, and a delightful smile crossing the faces of conservatives across the nation.

.

.

Here’s how I’ve been bumping Palin/Obama threads today.

Sung to the tune of “Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me.”

“Oh, no Bama, please don’t lie to me... for I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.”

I come from Minnesota with my laptop on my knee;
I’m goin’ to Free Republic my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry;
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I come from Minnesota,
with my laptop on my knee.

I had a dream the other night,
When everything was still;
I thought I saw Obama dear,
A-coming down the hill.
The smearing lie was in Duluth,
The tear was in his eye,
Said I, I’m coming for the truth
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

I fight in my pajamas,
It’s plain for all to see.
I aim to be the next Buckhead;
The media all hate me.
I fell in love with Sarah
When my sister bit a moose.
The Guvnor’s family ate it up
And then they set it loose.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

She loves her sons, she likes her guns,
and Trigonometry.
The media will jump the shark
When Juan makes history.
Well, JimRob knows she’ll pave the trolls
So controversially,
And Berg will knock Obama down
With friends of Hillary.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.

I soon will be in Hawaii,
And then I’ll look all ‘round,
And when I find his birth record,
I’ll fall upon the ground.
But if I do not find it,
This Freeper’ll surely die,
And when I’m dead and buried,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you cry for me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee

That 2/3second blip will turn out to be one of if not the high point of any picture in this campaign. It was priceless.

I saw her doing something but the camera didn’t stay on her long enough. Nice family.

I didn’t catch much of that because the camera didn’t stay on it but I did see her doing something. So cute.

I want to watch it a few more times before declaring that it is the best political speech I have ever seen, but it will likely be in the top ten.

This speech will be required viewing for political science classrooms for decades to come. Not because of the content, although the content was fantastic. Not because of the effective and substantial attacks, although this was a speech that was brutal in attacking her opponents.

The thing that put this speech over the top was stagecraft.

There were a few stumbles here and there, a couple of times where she wasn't handling the applause interruptions perfectly, but her delivery and control of the flow of the speech was mind-bending to those who study such things.

It's easy when you get to a red-meat line or when you get to a pointed funny attack to get screechy or over the top (men as well as women), but Gov. Palin delivered her lines smoothly and with effortless casualness.

Take this in the best possible light: Gov. Sarah Palin delivered harsh, biting quips better than Gov. Ann Richards; she then went on to deliver red-meat better than Pat Buchanan; she then went on to deliver small town, down-home, home-spun wisdom better than Andy Griffith could have.

Ronald Reagan used his skills as an actor to become one of our best political speaker of modern times. Bill Clinton had a natural affability and folksy way that came from the Southern culture that he grew up in.

Sarah Palin is a better natural speaker than either of those men, or at least she was tonight. If she can speak this way, can weave her natural likability and goodness, into more speeches, we have seen the birth of a political giant tonight.

It was a fantastic speech.

Palin very often looked straight into the camera to connect with the TV audience.

Unlike most politicians she realizes that she is talking to all of America during a massive event like this and not just to the comparatively minuscule audience in the arena.

I'm thinking her journalist background doesn't hurt her too much!

And it WAS a fantastic speech.

I first tuned in to MSNBC right after Palin's speech and Olbermann wasn't saying a whole lot. The rest of the crew was in Minnesota and he was all by his lonesome in New York (I guess). I kept going back and forth between Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. By the end of Olbermann's stint, he must have been faxed in some talking points by Soros, because he was back to attack mode. Going after the bridge to no where among some other items I can't think of right now. The others on the MSNBC panel were fairly nasty right off the bat--Pat Buchanan being the exception of course. Overall Olbermann was fairly subdued considering it was Olbermann. He seemed depressed. Andrea Mitchell was on the convention floor doing interviews and she wasn't smiling either right after the speech.

CNN was somewhat cordial (as cordial as a lefty outfit can be) to begin with. They brought in Paul Begalia when I bounced back to them. When I tuned in there, he was talking about a Harry Reid spokesmouth that had said the Palin speech was "shrill". Begalia didn't see a problem with the word--didn't think it was sexist. Neither did Donna Brazille. Campbell Brown and the other skirt on the panel were pretending like they were offended by the word--you know how they do that once a year to make it seem like they are fair and balanced they pretend like they are taking the conservative's side.

I agree with your bad thoughts about the press. I didn't think they could be worse than 2000 and 2004, but they have gotten worse.

Yes, that definitely helps.

I’ve read some comparisons here to the true “One,” Ronald Reagan.

Well, they were both sportscasters at one time.

Great start. Palin passed her first test. She needs to pass two other tests. If she does well in the next tests, we could actually win this year.

1) Hold a townhall meeting in a swing state on her own so she can answer the media smears against her and set the record straight.

2) The debate with Biden will be critical. Since she is being smeared as a bimbo and Biden is viewed as a intellect on foreign policy, Plain only needs to tie with Biden.

As I listened, I kept thinking she’s the female version of Ronald Reagan. She used humor to attack her opponents while smiling sweetly. Her timing and delivery were perfect.

She has a record of reform and executive experience in business and government.

The Dems will try to destroy her ASAP because she is a tremendous threat to the coronation of ‘The One’.

I am thrilled with McCain/Palin and I will contribute and work to elect them!

Absolutely amazing. Her public speaking is much better than Obama’s, too. He looks from one prompter to the other, back and forth like he’s watching a tennis match. He has that self-absorbed serious look on his face the whole time. His head is held high and haughtily. He looks like he trained himself to speak in a fake 1960s Kennedy style.

Sarah is a natural speaker, enjoying it and her audience, and her timing is IMPECCABLE. She was flat out witty and sharp, yet warm and attractive at the same time (and I’m a girl!). I spoke with a few (fellow, lol) intelligent women tonight and they all relate to her and like her.

I don’t think there is a male Democrat left tonight with his cojones still attached.

Bravissimo, Sarah!!! Hope my bumper sticker arrives soon.

Maybe not yet. But give her time, give her time.

If she keeps going this way, she’ll get there.
